Salvatore R. Mazzone Jr.

Salvatore R. Mazzone Jr., 76, of Hernando, FL, died on August 3, 2011, at Citrus Memorial hospital. Sal was born on May 11, 1935, in Norwalk, CT, the son of Sal and Rose Mazzone. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean conflict. Salvatore was retired from the A&P Supermarket Chain and was a store manager for various stores in Westchester County, NY. He moved to Citrus Hills in 2004 from Norwalk. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and the church choir, the Knights of Columbus No. 6168 and the Inverness Elks No. 2522.
Sal was preceded in death by his son, Salvatore R. Mazzone III, and his sister, Lucille Poruban. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Jeannette B. Mazzone of Hernando, FL; siblings, Joseph Mazzone of Wilton, CT, Jean Mazzone of CT, Marilyn Rogers (Louis) of Ormond Beach, FL, Robert Mazzone (Wilma) Milford, CT, James Mazzone of Pompano Beach, FL and Rosemarie Pizzi (John) Orange, CT.
Salvatore's family will receive friends at the Heinz Funeral Home in Inverness from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, August 5, 2011, with a vigil service beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2011, at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Interment with military honors will follow at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Family Resource Center of Citrus at 2435 N.
