Sam and I talked regularly when a fence at Lake Murray was going to be installed to keep exercisers out. I read a letter to the editor that Sam wrote. In it he said that if they wanted to put a fence up and keep out the visitors, that was fine just put it around the lake and let us use the road.

I looked up his name in the phone book and called him. He became an advocate to get the fence down. We succeeded in our quest and I am so grateful for his many letters to the paper and his unending support.

I am sorry we didn't keep in contact but I still think of him. I am also sorry I missed his service. He was such a good man.

I have known Sam for many many years through our CAI connection. Sam was a wonderful, warm, generous soul. Sam was a thoughtful and gentle advocate for the good of community associations. I will definitely miss Sam's smile. You have left a tremendous legacy here on earth. Now, may you rest in peace.
