I came upon this while searching the internet trying to find Sam. You have My deepest sympathy. Sam and I were in the same Squadron together in the Navy. We were stationed in Jacksonville Florida together, may He rest in Peace, He was a great Man and a great friend. I am just sad that I didn't find Him soon enough to reconnect.

Sam Pratt was officially our brother-in-law but he was, in reality, much more than that. We adopted each other as brothers. He was married to our sister Juanita for 62 years. From that union was produced a beautiful daughter Cheryl and three wonderful sons, Greg, Michael and Danny. Their quiver was filled with loving grand and great-grandchildren. Sam enjoyed fishing and also enjoyed finishing first. I'm reminded of a time when he took us fishing onto a reservoir in the California hills. Sam deposited us at several points along the lake which he guaranteed were great fishing spots. He then said that he was going to "find something" and went away to another location. Three hours later he returned with a huge stringer of fish and a big grin on his face. We caught one fish between us. He loved it and loved to have fun. His love for the U.S.Navy was a distant second to his great love for his family. More recently we were Blessed to have a wonderful time with him in January 2020. He was well loved and will be missed.

I was a young Ensign in VS-37 here in San Diego and Master Chief Pratt was the Command Master Chief. My first job was First Lieutenant and I had the pleasure of working directly with Sam.In fact our desks adjoined one another. What a great guy he was. He educated me on the ways to get things done and showed me great support and encouragement. Generally just a great guy. I am glad to have been in a small part of his life.
Best to his family.If the times we are in permitted I would have loved to attend his service.

I remember Sam Pratt with affection as a friendly, kind, loving, and intelligent father-in-law who was devoted to his family. An interesting person, he was interested in everything. He cooked the best smoked meats, tended an impressive garden at his home, and had many hobbies, including sports, blues music, and family history. He was a role model as my daughter's "Pops." We will remember him fondly. May he rest in peace. Paula
