Gulfport, Mississippi - Sammie Kay Lewis, age 78, was born on August 14, 1943 in Mt. Olive, MS and passed away on Monday, September 20, 2021 in Gulfport.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Edith Stuckey; her father, Estus Stuckey; her brothers, Sennett, Junior, John, Joe and twin brother Billy; her sisters, Bobbie and Virginia.
She leaves behind her husband, Alfred "Al" Lewis; her daughter, Debbie Benefield (Danny); her grandchildren, Kaycee Benefield Bingman (Matt), Matthew Benefield and Taylor Benefield; and three great-grandchildren; her brother, Charles Ray Stuckey (Dot); her sister, Ann Tolleson (Terrell) and many nephews and nieces. She also leaves behind a stepson, Tommy Lewis (Liz); a stepdaughter, Debbie Payne (David); three step grandchildren, 12 step great-grandchildren and 4 step great-great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life she volunteered and served others. She was involved in children's ministry, was an active member of the Orange Grove Volunteer Fire Department, Harmony Chapter O.E.S, and the D.A.V. Chapter 5 where she served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. She retired from Harrison County Schools, Walmart and the D.A.V.
She was loved by everyone who knew her and remembered for always having a smile on her face.
The family expresses a sincere thanks to their Kare-In-Home Hospice team, with special thanks to nurse Courtney.
Friends are invited to join the family for visitation and services on Saturday, September 25th at Riemann Family Funeral Home, 11280 Three Rivers Road, Gulfport. Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Sammie will be laid to rest at St. James Cemetery in Gulfport.
