Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 25, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with Reverend Brad Brittain of the Central United Methodist Church and Chaplain Craig Klempnauer officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Sammy was born August 18, 1930, in Durango, Falls County, Texas, to Gillis C. and Lucy Grisham Anderson. After graduating from McGregor High School, Sammy began working for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. He was called to serve in the Army Signal Corps during the Korean War. After two years of service he went back to work for the phone company. Shortly after he returned, he met and married his sweetheart, Dorothy Jean Bridgewater on June 4, 1954, at the First Methodist Church in Marlin. They made their home and raised their family in Waco. Sammy retired from Southwestern Bell in 1988 after forty years of service. After his retirement, Sammy and Dorothy Jean enjoyed traveling and being with their family. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He had a quiet strength and a caring heart. He dearly loved his family and they truly loved him. Sammy was respected by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Sammy was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Dixie Butcher; brother-in-law, Storey Lee Butcher; brother, Charlie Anderson; and sister-in-law, Jo Anderson. He is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy Jean; daughters, Brenda Anderson of Fort Worth and Sue Koehler and husband, Mike, of Waco; a son, Scott Anderson of Waco, who helped care for his Pop for two years; three grandchildren, Chelsea, John, and Samantha; sister-in-law, Linda Keener; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Faye, Cindy, Carol, Craig, and Tammy of Southern Care Hospice for their care and support. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association or the Central United Methodist Church Meals on Wheels.
