SAMMY ANGOTT Obituary
of Canton, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the age of 72. Sammy was born in Washington, Pa. on July 5, 1945, to the late Sammy Sr. and Evelyn Angott. Growing up with Sammy Sr., the three-time world lightweight boxing champion, sports were a huge part of Sammy's life from a very young age. He was a 1963 graduate of Central Catholic High School where he lettered in four sports and broke several baseball records before attending Ohio University. Sammy was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1965. He was a great storyteller and relished his years playing ball professionally, and later, on local traveling teams. He coached youth softball and baseball for many years and has been inducted in several local amateur sports halls of fame. After marrying the love of his life, they together operated a successful businesses in Stark County and Grand Cayman, where he and his family lived and enjoyed the Caribbean for over ten years. Sammy's family and friends, particularly his daughters and grandchildren, were the love and joy of his life. He also dearly loved his many great danes, chihuahuas, other pets and spending time at the beach.
Sammy is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Diane (Preusser) of Canton; children, Danielle (Dan) Higgins and Brooke (James) Elliott; grandchildren, Austin, Aubrey and Caroline; sister, Rosemarie Angott; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Pat Preusser, Joe (Carol) Preusser, Linda Preusser and Terry (Cindy) Preusser; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sammy Sr. and Evelyn Angott; sister, Theresa Patterson; brother-in-law, John Preusser; and grandparents.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11 at the Rossi Family Funeral Home, 730 30th St. N.W., Canton, OH 44709. A memorial service for close family and friends will be held at Rossi on Thursday, April 12 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of the Pound to benefit the Stark County Dog Warden, 1801 Mahoning Rd NE, Canton, OH 44705 - Attn: Medical Room. Words cannot express how much he was loved and how much he will be missed.

Sam and I were close friends. We were roommates at Ohio university and in ft. Lauderdale and in Youngstown. We had the best of times. There just wasnt anybody like him. Life took us in different directions but I have never forgotten. I cant believe hes gone. I hope youll be ok Diane. Love, Ed ONeill

First met Sam at Ohio University in 1964. Hung with him, Ed O'Neill and Ross Locke who was the lead singer in 'The' local band the Scepter's when we made our famous 48 hour 'one way' trip to Florida during Spring Break of 1966. Sam was more than 'one of a kind' . . . one of the funniest, most quick witted and tremendous athletes I've ever known. Was shocked to hear of his passing and can only imagine what a huge hole he leaves in your hearts.

Dear Diane, Danielle, and Brooke- and Family- Our hearts are broken for all of you, Sammy was one of a kind, and one of our dearest friends, and we will always treasure the time we spend with all of you. I knew Sammy Sr and he would talk about Sammy Jr and what he did along the way in his life. It looks like the Apple did not fall far from the tree after reading his obituary. Sorry for loss to all those around him.
