Samuel Ira Boldissar

Samuel Ira Boldissar, 25, of Redondo Beach, died on March 25, 2017 as a result of a rock climbing accident. He was born on October 2, 1991, the son of Frank and Jeri Boldissar. He attended Redondo Beach schools and graduated from Redondo Union High School in 2009. Sam went on to attend El Camino Community College and transferred to University of California, Santa Barbara, where he earned his Bachelor's of Science in biochemistry in 2014. He was currently enrolled at the University of California, Santa Barbara earning his PhD in physical chemistry. He completed his oral examination, which earned him his Master's of Science in chemistry, and he was in the process of publishing multiple papers.

Sam was an Eagle Scout of Redondo Beach Troop 788. He achieved his Eagle rank upon completion of a project where he designed, funded, and oversaw the construction of a storage shed for a child development center and preschool in Anderson Park.

Sam is survived by his parents, Frank and Jeri of Redondo Beach, and his brother Zac. He also leaves his paternal grandfather, Frank Boldissar Sr. of San Antonio, Tx. He is also survived by his girlfriend, Jaclyn Gold of Upland and several friends, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Sam was a lover of the outdoors. He spent his free time rock climbing in Joshua Tree, backpacking in the Sierras, and relaxing at the beach. Sam was also a self starter; he taught himself how to play the guitar, brew beer, and was gaining interest in cooking. Always patient and kind, Sam was known for his big smile and even bigger heart.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 22 from 11 am to 2 pm at RUHS auditorium in Redondo Beach.

In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to a Chemistry fund set up in Sam's honor at the high school. Checks can be made out to RUHS ASB (write Chemistry in the memo) and sent to: Redondo Union High School, One Sea Hawk Way, Redondo Beach, CA 90277. A box will also be provided at the service for checks.
