Samuel Brown

Samuel (Sam) Brown, beloved husband, father, grand and great-grandfather passed away on February 4th, 2015 at his home in Reno, Nevada surrounded by his family after a prolonged illness. Sam was born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1939 to George Brown and July Kawai.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mary Lawrence; his children, Lance Brown, Cecilia Brown-Acevedo, Lehua Brown, Kehau Bowman and Kona Brown as well as his nephew Kevin Brown and adopted son Jay Clark; his grandchildren, Donovan, Vanessa and Miranda Brown and step-grandson Brandon Lopez; Justin Serrano; Makani and Nakoa Floto; Ian and Aidan Bowman and Samuel Brown; as well as his great-granddaughter Lei na'ala Borbon-Brown. He is also survived by his sister Charlene Geller, sisters-in-law Loretta and Josephine Brown, innumerable loving and loved nieces and nephews of the Kam, Ka'aihue, Brown, Kahahawai , Cabral and Puchalski families.

He is preceded in death by his beloved grandson Kainoa Brown; son Kevin Brown-Sieger; his parents George and July; brothers George, Allington and Raymond Brown; sisters Gladys Ka'aihue, Charlotte Kahahawai, Bernice Cabral and Elsie Puchalski.

Grandmaster Sam Brown leaves a legacy of 50+ years of Kenpo instruction. He began his life's work with the C.H.A. 3 school of Kenpo in Honolulu, Hawaii and then founded the Almaden Kenpo Club which transitioned to the Ken-Ju-Bo-Ai National Association. He passes this responsibility and heritage to his son, Professor Lance Kekoa Brown as well as his daughter and son; Kehau Bowman and Kona Samuel Brown. He has shared his love of the Kenpo art with many students throughout Nevada, Hawaii, California, Oregon and Washington. He has produced many instructors throughout these states to include Harold Hale, Thomas Hattery, Richard Lewis, Martin Guerrero, Ismael Beltran, Andy Ikeler, Javier Acordagoitia, Robert Lee, John Brown, Jeff Urmston, Jon McCue, Joseph Pace and Damien Cabral.
