Samuel C. Davis

Samuel C. Davis, 72, of Scottdale (East Huntingdon Township), passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at his residence. Sam was born June 16, 1937, a son of the late Fred Clyde and Viola L. Beal Davis. He was married to Betty L. Peterson Davis, who passed away Oct. 13, 2005. Sam was a devoted father and grandfather. He was the previous owner of Sam's Gas & Grocery in Reagantown, a cook at the Olive Garden in Greensburg, and a certified lay minister, serving the four-corner United Methodist congregations. He was a graduate of East Huntingdon High School's Class of 1955. Sam was a member of the Scottdale BPO Elks Lodge 777, where he served as Past Exalted Ruler. He was a member of Marion Masonic Lodge 562 of Scottdale and a Past Worshipful Master. He was also a member of the Uniontown Lodge of Perfection 14th Degree where he was a Past Thrise Potent Master and holder of the Meritorious Service Award. He was a member of the Council Chapter Consistory, Valley of Pittsburgh and a 32nd Degree Mason. He was also a member of the Syria Shriners AAONMS of Pittsburgh. He enjoyed model airplanes and woodworking. Sam will be sadly missed by his loving family; his children, Donald C. Davis (owner of Sam's Gas & Grocery) and his wife, Rachel, of Scottdale, Diane Reho and her husband, James, of Smithton, Karen Caton and her husband, Gregory, of Pittsburgh, Sandra Davis, of Scottdale, and Barbara Frick and her husband, James, of Scottdale; his grandchildren, Alicia Davis, Michael and Emily Reho, Cody, Justin and Andrew Frick; a brother-in-law, Galen Lynn, of Blairsville; and his two nieces. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jessica Davis, on March 13, 1991; and a sister, Maxine Lynn. Family and friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. Additional viewing will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Wednesday in Jacobs Creek United Methodist Church, where funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. with Pastor Kimberly King officiating. Graveside committal services and interment will follow in Scottdale Cemetery. The Marion Masonic Lodge 562 will hold a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday and the Scottdale Elks Lodge 777 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home.
