Samuel Gale Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 3, 2003.
Gale Samuel C. Gale. Age 66, of Egg Harbor, WI, on Dec. 4, 2002, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born July 16, 1936, the son of Samuel and Stella Gale of Minneapolis. Graduated 1954, Washburn High School, and in 1960, University of Minnesota where he served as the first president of Alpha Delta Sigma, professional journalism fraternity. Married Susan Motherwell in 1957. Sam served in the U.S. Navy as an air crewman with Heavy Attack Squadron 16 in the Pacific. It was here that he developed his life-long love of flying. He got his license soon after leaving the service and enjoyed gliding as well as powered flying the rest of his life. Sam began his business career in the east working in Burlington, VT, Washington, DC and New Canaan, CT before moving to California where he became involved with the commercial roofing business as a marketing consultant. He soon became involved with the management and installation phases of the business. Sam finally developed his own company, Courser and Associates before moving to Door County, WI, to enjoy a more rural lifestyle. He continued to be called on by the legal profession as an expert witness in roofing litigation. He authored and published two books on the subject of commercial roofing. Sam was a champion swimmer in high school and, in his later years, taught swimming to youngsters at the Northern Door County YMCA. Sam is survived by his wife, Susan; a son, David; daughters, Susanne and Allison; grand-daughters, Amanda and Brittany; brother, Jerry (Donna) Gale; niece, Ann Gale; and nephew, Sam (Liane) Gale. Private burial. Memorial gathering at later date.

Sue--sadly learned of Sam's death through the Youngbergs. Common ties: you and I for confirmation, all of us for Washburn '54 and Sam and I both pilots and flying on A-3s Skywarriers while in Navy in Pacific. (I was a Navy flight surgeon). Sympathies and regards.

Sam, if you're listening - and you probably are - I remind you, you are one of those rare people who were always easy to be around on this earthly plane. Your ready smile and upbeat attitude brightened the days of countless people. You were a great listener, too.

Remember that day in 1985 you and I flew to Tahachacapi Glider port? We made that Grobe do some superb airwork that day. I still have a framed photograph as a reminder.

We're all smiling with you, Sam.

Sue, you probably don't remember me - Washburn 53'... but, I'm with you in sadness and fond memories.

Best wishes,

Brad Jones
