HINCKLEY--Samuel Neilson Jr., died at age 92 on July 11, 2008 at Villa Marin, San Rafael, CA. Born in NYC on September 14, 1915, he was a direct descendent of Samuel Hinckley who sailed on the Hercules arriving in Scituate, MA, March, 1634, later moving to the town of Barnstable, and his son Thomas Hinckley, Governor of Plymouth Colony. Mr. Hinckley attended the Aiken Preparatory School, and graduated from Groton School and Harvard University where he was President of the Harvard Advocate. For 40 years he was a stock broker in San Francisco and divided his time between Menlo Park and Inverness, CA. His marriage to the former Helen Pettit ended in divorce in 1991. He was predeceased by his longtime and beloved companion, Mary Elizabeth Lyman in 2003. He leaves behind his wonderful and loving soulmate, Gabriele Horton, and his adoring children Samuel H. Hinckley and Helen H. Beekman. He is also survived by his four grandchildren Samuel N. Hinckley, Suzanne S. Hinckley, Izaak B. Beekman and Hugo H.L. Beekman as well as his daughter-in-law Frances D. Hinckley and son-in-law William B. Beekman. Not only will Sam be deeply missed by his devoted family but his ever joyful, witty, kind, loving, intelligent friendship will be missed by many friends of all ages from California to the East Coast. A memorial celebration of his life will be held in Inverness, CA in September. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Hinckley may be made to the Michael J. Dear "Bunny," ~ I'm sorry for your loss, what a wonderful man your Dad will always be. I'm hoping you are the person I knew growing up in Menlo, near Mrs. Lusk, Piano teacher. 'Am in MT now (26 yrs.), lost my parents in '96. 'Recall you as a darling young person -- God bless.

I considered Sam to be a good friend for many years. And I thank God for that friendship. He will be missed greatly by all who knew him.
