Bill and I think about Sam often. Every time Bill is driving in the tough situation where you have to inch out and get onto a main road without benefit of a traffic signal, I will tell him "Get your nose out there" in the best Pittsburgh accent I can muster as a California-raised gal. This was Sam's instruction to Bill when he wasn't being as assertive in driving as Sam would have liked. The memory of Sam brings to mind the Gary Larsen cartoon where two polar bears are outside an igloo. One says to the other, "I love these things---crusty on the outside and soft on the inside." That was Sammy. We miss him every day and send love and hugs to all those who felt that love even more deeply. Sunny, hang tough. It's what Sam would do!

Bill and I still talk about Sammy with smiles and fondness. The latest story is one Sunny shared about him telling his kids about St. Joseph being the saint for success in selling your house. Apparently, he told his kids, who were having trouble selling, to bury a St. Joseph statue outside and he would bring a buyer. Sure enough, a week later, the house sold. Bill and I are trying to sell our place in Dallas, so I went straight to Amazon.com and would you believe, they sell a $5 St. Joseph real estate kit, complete with small statue and prayer card and instructions for how to use it. Between St. Jo, Sammy, and our realtor, we expect success.
Just learned a new (to us) card game and really would have loved playing it with Sam and Susan.
Miss that sweetheart every day.

I was part of the Saturday morning drawing class at Creation Art Studio with Elizabeth Castonguay. Sammy was a wonderful man, and we will all miss his persistence and desire to learn. So sorry we learned of his passing too late to come in person and pay our respects.

I was Sammy's 'Life Drawing' instructor for years at the Carnegie Museum of Art and then at my studio. Everyone loved having Sammy in class because of his kind and enthusiastic personality. We all appreciated seeing his artistic progress over the years. I spoke to Sammy about a week or so before his passing and he was as sharp as ever. His mind defied aging. I am sorry that my class and I heard of Sammy's passing a week late or we would have been present at the visitation. Sammy deeply loved and was so proud of his family. You have our very deepest sympathy. Our class and the world will never be quite the same as when Sammy graced us with his presence. I am sure the heavens glow a bit more brightly now that Sammy has returned home.

To The Mahfood family ...my deepest condolences. Sam was my "other boss" (my Uncle Tom was the #1 boss) at Cedars of Lebanon bingo. I have many good memories of Sam at Cedars. My best, was I was running late getting to work and I was stopped by a motorcycle police officer who claims I was speeding. Yes, I got a ticket. But, when I got to work, I was quite upset for I was late and of the ticket. Sam asked to see the ticket, he told me not to worry about it, At 17, young and innocent I didn't know anything. I asked him a few years later, if he paid the ticket, his reply was "I know people". Sam was a great person and always had a beautiful smile, I will cherish his memories.

Sam was a wonderful, loving human being. I'll always remember the way he said "get aaaht" and as a passenger in the car, telling my Bill "get your nose out there." His and Sunny's love for and devotion to one another is an example for all. We miss him and envy the angels in heaven that Sammy is now with them.
