My first memories of Sam are the Friday night dances in Emporia, Kansas. I was in Jr High and Sam was in High School. He was always a lot of fun. Later when I was dating my husband Bill Shomber I found out he and Sam were childhood friends. We always looked forward to seeing Sam and Marilyn at the High School reunions. He will be missed by many.

Sam worked at my father's (Ed Modjeski) printing co., Graphic Enterprises in the 1950s. One Saturday when I was about 7 or 8, my father took me to Sam's studio on the lower east side of Milwaukee. I still recall how I loved going there and meeting an artist! Sam was in the process of painting a portrait of my younger sister, Joyce. It hung in our family home for many years. I studied art and became a painter too!
I also remember Sam's kind demeanor. So sorry for your loss.

We were saddened by the news of Sam's passing. My wife and I had so many wonderful memories. Meeting Sam with Marilyn preceding the upcoming wedding of our Son, Andy and their daughter, Sara was such a special time. Sam had a wonderful personality and a great gift of gab, and he shared many of his historical stories with us. He had an infectious laugh and Linda and I found him to be a knowedgeable and imaginative individual. We were always happy to get together with Sam and Marilyn--believe me, there was never a dull moment!
