Samuel Ramirez Obituary
Sam was born in Emporia, Kansas, to Emilio and Santos Ramirez (nee Hernandez), on July 12, 1932, the second of seven children. He graduated from Emporia High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College. He was proud of his life of service, starting with his military service in the Air Force and National Guard and followed by his civil service with the Mequon Police Reserves and Mequon Fire Department. Sam served for many years as the Lay Chaplain for both the Mequon Police and Mequon Fire Departments. He was also a talented artist and photographer.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Eliseo and Emilio Ramirez, his sisters Carolina Kent, Gloria Ramirez, Raquel Mills and Amparo Ramirez, and his nieces Robin Annette Ramirez and Shari Mills. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marilyn Ramirez (nee Conger), daughters Aleta Ramirez-St. Onge, Rebecca Ramirez (Eric Wall) and Sara Ramirez (Andrew Pawlowski), and grandchildren Travis St. Onge, Adrian Wall, Liam Wall, Maxim Pawlowski, Emma Pawlowski, and Schuyler Pawlowski. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.
Sam was always up for coffee, companionship, and a good story. He loved Powell's City of Books in Portland, OR, history and historic vacations, was an avid collector of many things and always ready for an adventure. He made friends wherever he went, doted on his grandchildren and all children in general. The world was a better place with him in it. His passing leaves a void in the family, and a hole in all our hearts.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Norine Nazareth, the staff at Aurora Grafton Medical Center, the Mequon first responders and Mequon Police Department.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Covenant House or Alzheimer's disease research. Services will be held on December 22, 2023 at Schramka Densow Funeral Home, 423 Main St, Thiensville WI 53092, from 4:00 to 5:30 with a short service at 5:30.

My first memories of Sam are the Friday night dances in Emporia, Kansas. I was in Jr High and Sam was in High School. He was always a lot of fun. Later when I was dating my husband Bill Shomber I found out he and Sam were childhood friends.We always looked forward to seeing Sam and Marilyn at the High School reunions. He will be missed by many.

My first memories of Sam was in Jr High in Emporia, Kansas. I use dance with him at Friday night socials. When I married my husband Bill Shomber I found out he and Sam were childhood friends. Our last time together was at a High School reunion. He will be missed.

Sam worked at my father's (Ed Modjeski) printing co., Graphic Enterprises in the 1950s. One Saturday when I was about 7 or 8, my father took me to Sam's studio on the lower east side of Milwaukee. I still recall how I loved going there and meeting an artist! Sam was in the process of painting a portrait of my younger sister, Joyce. It hung in our family home for many years. I studied art and became a painter too!
I also remember Sam's kind demeanor. So sorry for your loss.

We were saddened by the news of Sam's passing. My wife and I had so many wonderful memories. Meeting Sam with Marilyn preceding the upcoming wedding of our Son, Andy and their daughter, Sara was such a special time. Sam had a wonderful personality and a great gift of gab, and he shared many of his historical stories with us. He had an infectious laugh and Linda and I found him to be a knowedgeable and imaginative individual. We were always happy to get together with Sam and Marilyn--believe me, there was never a dull moment!
