Sam Stead of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the age of 90 years. Sam immigrated to Canada with his family in 1928, where they homesteaded in Irma, AB. He served with the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII as an Air Frame Mechanic. Sam met Anne while serving in the Air Force and they were married near Edinburgh in 1945. Sam was employed with Canada Post for thirty-nine years in Lethbridge, AB, Radville, SK and Fernie, BC. His true passion was square dancing, spanning over many years, calling in clubs throughout AB, BC, and SK. Sam trained many groups of square dancers in preparation for the opening ceremonies of 1988 Olympics in Calgary. Sam is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Margaret and Sandy Orsten; son and daughter-in–law Gordon and Rose Stead; grandchildren, Jeff (Maria), Jamie, Jennifer and Kenneth; great- grandchildren, Jordan, Jack, Alex, Braxton and McKayla; his sister Cathie (Herb) Johnson; sister-in-law Faye Stead; as well as his nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Anne, parents Jim and Bessie and brothers Jack and Jim. A Celebration of Sam's Life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 285 (9202 Horton Road S.W.) on Friday, July 18, 2014 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
