Sandra Andrews Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Mar. 30 to Apr. 1, 2021.
Andrews, Sandra P. 9/19/1939 - 3/26/2021 Jackson, MI and Sanibel, FL Sandra Paul Andrews passed away peacefully on March 26, 2021, after a courageous 12-year battle with Multiple Myeloma, an incurable form of cancer. She never gave up her fight; and though the disease eventually prevailed and took her body, Sandy never let it dampen her spirit, the same spirit that will continue to guide us all. Sandy was born on 9/19/39 in Brooklyn, NY, the only child of Alphons Paul and Ann Tisack. Soon after, they moved to Far Rockaway, in Queens, NY, where she was Valedictorian at The Mary Louis Academy, an all-girls college preparatory high school and went on to graduate from The Katharine Gibbs School. As a child growing up in Far Rockaway, she would go to the movies multiple times a week, became a voracious reader and loved going to the beach, particularly Jones Beach. Sandy worked at Olin Corporation in NYC, where she met Harold P. (Andy) Andrews, whom she married in November 1962. They laughed about how he taught her to drive in NYC, while 8 months pregnant with their first daughter, Deborah Wells. Happily all survived the lessons, and they moved from NYC to Jackson, MI where daughter, Allison Lynn and son Stephen Paul were born. Sandy was a New Yorker through and through. You could take the Girl out of NY but you couldn't take the NY out of the Girl! Sandy was passionate about golf, family trips (especially slot machines in Vegas and the serenity of Jackson Hole, WY), shopping at Target and TJ Maxx, watching sports on TV, eating potato chips and fruitcake and her morning cup of coffee. She loved texting her kids and grandkids all day long. Her favorite times were when she was with her children or was being "Grammy" to her four grandchildren (Tara Caitlin, Caleigh Clare, Olivia Carroll and Kohler Christopher). Sandy spent 58 years of love and devotion with her husband and soulmate, during which time they spent very little time apart. Upon Andy's retirement, they became Florida residents and split their time between Jackson and Sanibel Island. Her favorite time of year was Christmas, when her entire family routinely came together. Sandy was wickedly witty and smart, a resourceful and creative problem solver and the heart and the soul of the entire Andrews Family. In addition to her husband, children and grandchildren, Sandy is survived by several cousins, including her closest, siblings Judy and Robert Shapiro. A memorial of Sandy's life will be held later this summer, in Jackson, MI. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to either Hope Hospice (Hope Development Department, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908) or the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (c/o Todd Brooks, 383 Main Ave, 5th Fl, Norwalk, CT 06850).

Sandy was a wonderful friend with a zest for life and a biting sense of humor. She always talked about her family and delighted in what they were doing. Andy was the love of her life and they enjoyed each other and loved deeply. What a fighter she was throughout her illness. She was courageous. We will miss her. May the wonderful memories of her life help to ease the pain of her loss. Fondly, Joel and Shirley Levine

Sandy graced the lives of anyone and everyone who was ever blest to know her .She brought sunshine and smiles into the room as she arrived and we looked forward to her wit and comments, on all matters big and small, that were sure to follow . She rests now in comfort , without pain, among the angels and saints who gathered to greet her into our Lord's heavenly home.

Andy and the entire Andrews family,

I'm so sorry to read of Sandy's passing. Another Jackson legend who will make Heaven a better place. Sandy was a most memorable and kind person, who always had something fun and interesting to add to any conversation I had with her. Even when my early teen compadres and I hit into her foursome on Tuesday mornings, she was kind. Miffed maybe, but so kind! I hope all of you find comfort in a lifetime of precious memories that she created with you.
