Sandra Lee Bailey
AIKEN - Sandra Lee Bailey died peacefully on February 12, 2018, at Aiken Regional Medical Center.
Sandie, as she was known to friends and family, was born on October 10, 1943, in Washington DC, the daughter of the late Rollin P. Mead and Marjorie Pauline Heffner Mead of Darnestown, Maryland. Sandie was married for 41 years to the late Gary A. Bailey and is survived by her sons Andrew G. Bailey (Aiken SC) and Kenneth D. Bailey (Darnestown MD), and one grandson Alexander Bailey (Darnestown MD). Sandie is also survived by her mother, one brother Richard Meade and his wife Loretta of Darnestown MD, two sisters Patricia Otten and husband Leroy of Tampa FL, and Deborah Mead of Darnestown MD, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sandie graduated from Gaithersburg High School (MD) and attended the University of Maryland where she studied interior design before her marriage to Gary, an aerospace engineer whose career took them from Baltimore MD to Huntsville AL before returning to the Washington DC metro area. After her sons were in school, and for nearly 25 years, she had a very successful career as a realtor in Maryland before relocating to Aiken, SC in 2001 after her husband's retirement. As soon as she was settled in Aiken, Sandie began work as a realtor for Woodside Realty until after Gary's death when she returned to Maryland to care for her aging mother. She returned to Aiken in November 2017 to live with her son.
At Sande's request, funeral services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
The Historic George Funeral Home, 211 Park Ave., SW, Aiken, SC 29801 (803.649.6234), has charge of arrangements.
