Sandra Burack Herbst Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2017.
Sandra Julia Burack Herbst, age 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 14, 2017. Born in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Ephraim and Jeannette (Krauss) Burack. Sandra was the devoted and loving wife of the late Gerald B. Herbst. Surviving are three beloved children, Beth Herbst-Smith of Delran, NJ, Nancy Herbst-Banta (David McGilloway) of Pipersville, PA, and Valerie Burack-Davis (David Kyle Davis) of Newtown, PA; four adoring grandchildren, Jeri DiGirolamo (John), Autumn Banta, David Christopher Davis, and Jennifer Davis. In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Burack. Sandra grew up in West Orange, NJ, and graduated from Montclair State University. She lived for many years in Levittown and Newtown, Bucks County, PA. She worked as a teacher and bookkeeper, and also owned and operated a restaurant, Pasta Pronto, in South Philadelphia. Sandra was a wonderful cook, and she loved having family and friends gather around her table. Her famous mashed potatoes will be missed. She and her husband loved traveling, Broadway shows, concerts, and playing cards with friends. Sandra had a loud, joyful laugh that was contagious. Sandra loved a good book, music of the big bands, classic movies, sitting on the beach, discussing world events, but most of all she loved her family. Spending time with her children and grandchildren was her favorite pastime. She was looking forward to meeting her first great-grandchild in early January. She will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her. Services and Interment will be held privately at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Sandra's memory may be made to Bucks County Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, 400 Freedom Drive, Newtown, PA 18940 (www.bucksblind.org) or to the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (www.giving.mskcc.org). Please indicate on the donation that the gift is in memory of Sandra Herbst. Family Service by Dunn/Givnish of Langhorne. 1-800-GIVNISH

Dear Autumn and Family: Autumn has always spoken of her grandmother with love and pride. It is easy to see why. May your memories of all those family dinners bring you peace and comfort in the coming days.

Sandra was an interesting and intelligent woman who wanted the world to be a better place. Her love of history, literature, theater, and music never diminished over the years. I learned a great deal from our many conversations and will miss her strong spirit and friendship. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family during this difficult time. Judy and Bill
