Sandra A. "Sandy" Deckman

Sandra 72, of Sequim died on May 9, 2016, in Seattle, Washington, after a lengthy fight with cancer.

She was born in St. Paul, Indiana, to John and Doris Vanarsdall, graduated from St. Paul High School and later received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Evansville College (University of Evansville now).

In 1967, she was married to James M. Deckman at St. Paul Christian Church. They have two children and five grandchildren.

Sandy had a career in nursing that spanned obstetrics, kidney research, pediatrics and occupational health. She earned her Certified Occupational Health Nurse certificate while employed at Delta Airlines in Atlanta, Georgia.

She finished her career at Delta by becoming a flight attendant, serving until just after 9/11. Her second career was dental assisting in her husband's dental practice both in Georgia and Washington state.

Gardening was her most-loved hobby, followed closely by golf. She became a Master Gardener in Clallam County in 2009 and had attained 500 volunteer hours.

Sandy was a member of the Lady Niners at Cedars of Dungeness golf course.

She leaves her beloved husband, Jim; a daughter, Jill (Deckman) Cooper of Ballard, Washington, and grandson Dylan and granddaughter Lila; a son, Drew, and his wife, Paulina, and granddaughter Matilda of Valle de Guadalupe, Baja, Mexico; two grandsons, Samuel and Philip Deckman, both of Berlin, Germany; and younger brother Glen Vanarsdall and his wife, Edie, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was predeceased by her older brother, Robert of Johnson Valley, California.
