Sandra Hartley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 10, 2023.
If there is one phrase that would sum up Sandy's life philosophy, it would be "it is more blessed to give than to receive." Sandy had a generous heart and moved through life with the intention of sharing any blessings she had with others. Her giving nature spread through her career and volunteer choices, focusing mainly on children and children's causes.

Sandy Hartley, 77, passed away November 7, 2023. She was born in Jacksonville, FL September 11th to Ben and Mildred Stull. She received her undergraduate degree from Florida State University, her first Master's degree from the University of Florida, and her second Master's degree from the University of South Florida. Sandy was an art teacher for over 20 years, inspiring generations of young artists. As she reached her 50th birthday, Sandy changed career paths and went back to school to become a children's librarian. She served with the Hillsborough County Library system for over 15 years until her retirement. Sandy made a positive impact with everyone she met, using her creative mind and playful spirit to bring a sense of whimsy into all manner of situations. Sandy loved Broadway musicals, Disney, Harry Potter, a good movie marathon, and her family above all else. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her brother Richard Stull, her children John Wilcox (Nellie), Elisabeth Marte (Elvin), and Ben Wilcox, and her 7 grandchildren, Hannah, Aiden, Lucas, Liam, Elisa, Alex, and Austin.

Sandy's life was filled with music, literature, love, and laughter. We ask that you share the same with someone you love today, we can think of no better legacy from someone whose life was spent showing love to others. She will be greatly missed but her legacy of generosity will live on. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Florida Guardian Ad Litem Foundation. (https://flgal.networkforgood.com).

Sandy was the art teacher at the school where I worked. I love Sandy and we shared a love of art projects and Harry Potter. She was so creative and I loved her class. She was a special person and I know will be missed greatly by her family and friends It´s been so long since I´ve seen her, but would recognize that beautiful smile anywhere! Rest in Peace, Sandi.

Sandy was my colleague at the library. She was even my supervisor for one year. I will always remember her very fondly. The public library was made a better place thanks to her.

In memory of my dear friend Sandy Hartley, so many good times together at The Disney Store at Westshore, from Plush Mountain to shipments, having fun with our fellow cast members etc. I'll never forget going to Barnes & Noble for the release of Harry Potter books with her, skipper and Carol Ann, they were huge fans. Our love of cats and adopting two together. So many happy times. Rest in peace dear friend.
