Sandra Jamison Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 2, 2024.
Sandra Lynn Jamison, affectionately known as Sandy, passed away on June 20, 2024, at the age of 77 in Mechanicsburg, PA. Born on April 27, 1947, in Washington, PA, Sandy embarked on a life of service, faith, and education, touching countless lives both locally and internationally.

Sandy's educational journey began at Schutz American School in Alexandria, Egypt, and continued through Maryville College, the Francis Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case-Western Reserve, and finally, her MSN and PhD in Nursing at Indiana University. Her passion for nursing education led her to leadership positions, including serving as Chairperson of Nursing and Director of the Graduate Program at Indiana Wesleyan University. She was subsequently recruited by Messiah College to be Chairperson of the Department of Nursing. In her words, the greatest achievement of the college was the entry of several hundred wonderful and skilled graduates into the nursing workforce to make a difference, to extend Jesus' ministry of health and compassion to countless patients and their families.

Sandy became the Director of Faculty and Graduate Student Ministries for Nurses Christian Fellowship, an organization that was always near and dear to her. Despite retiring early due to physical challenges, Sandy continued to contribute selflessly to the community at Messiah Village and at Grantham Brethren in Christ Church in Mechanicsburg, PA. Her life was a testament to her dedication to serving Jesus through helping others, teaching from the Bible, maintaining a garden that displayed the beauty of His creation, and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature, flowers, and birds.

Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Mary Martha Jamison. She is survived by her siblings, Glenn, Stephen, and Deborah. In addition, she leaves 8 nieces and nephews, and 9 great nieces and nephews who always delighted in spending time with her.

A service to celebrate Sandy's life will be held at Grantham Brethren in Christ Church, 421 Grantham Rd., Mechanicsburg, at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 27, 2024. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Messiah Lifeways Endowment Fund for benevolent care at Messiah Lifeways, 100 Mt. Allen Drive, Mechanicsburg, PA 17055 or online at https://www.messiahlifeways.org/giving/donate/.

A story that makes me laugh is when Sandy told of the evacuation from Egypt due to the 1956 Suez war, and their family ended up in Italy for awhile. In facing a buffet line for the first time in her life, (about age 8), she was alarmed by the mantra that played in her head from family meal times, "Try some of everything, and clean up your plate!" Thankfully someone straightened out the confusion in this situation.

I knew Sandy from both of us attending Grantham Church. She was always serving others and often helped at the very energetic Vacation Bible School, even in her later years. She was a blessing to all of us.

As a teenager, she was an awesome basketball player. I always admired her athletic abilities the more so because I had none!
