Sandra Manning Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 13, 2016.
Sandra Kay Manning of Davin, WV Sandra Kay (Brumfield) Manning, 63, of Davin, valiantly and courageously lost a battle with cancer. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior in October 2015 and went to her home in Heaven on Tuesday, April 13, 2016. Sandy was born on March 21, 1953, at Mallory, a daughter of the late Bobby Burns Brumfield and Madeva (Vance) Brumfield. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lisa Brumfield; one step-son, Darren Manning; sisters-in-law, Arlene Manning, Catherine (Cat) Paynter and Icelene Adkins; brothers-in-law, Clyde Manning and Clinton Ray Manning. She leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Ronald James Manning; her beloved daughter, Jillian D. Preston of Heron Lake, MN; three adoring sons, Stephen (Bridgett) Preston of Heron Lake, MN, Brandon J. Manning of Davin, and Ronald Brent (Sara) Manning of Danville; her precious grandchildren, Jenna Michelle Jenniges, Brianna M. Preston, Bethany Manning, Emi Grace (Miss Emi Girl) Manning, Christopher C. Preston, and Patrick D. Preston; and her very special sisters-in-law, Katrina Manning of Dallas, TX, Sandra Black of Naples, FL, and Patty Nisbett of Kingsport, TN. Also left to grieve Sandy's loss are her eight fur babies and companions: Yorkies, Billy Joel, Summer Brooke, Payton, Micha Jackson (Jacks), and Baby Teeka; schnauzers, Paris Hilton and Brody; and one Shih tzu, Porsha. Sandy was a woman filled with love and compassion for her family, friends, and education. She had an exuberant personality and positive demeanor that made everyone around her feel special. The family grieves the loss of a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. The community grieves the loss of a friend, mentor, and leader in education. Sandy graduated from Man High School and Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and a Masters in Administration. She had an active forty-two years of service in education in Logan County Schools. She worked for the Logan County Board of Education as an aide, secretary, teacher, and principal. She retired as principal from Man High School in 2014, where she had served for fourteen years. She worked fervently as an educator and principal throughout the years, and she was admired and respected by her peers for her tireless effort, encouragement, and leadership along the way. The students at Man High School will remember her by the way she made them feel. Mrs. Sandy Manning could bring a smile to her students' faces with her friendly personality. It was evident that they felt that she genuinely cared about them. They knew that she would do anything for them and had their best interest at heart. That made her a great principal. Leisure time for Sandy was not idle time, for she loved decorating her home and the school for the holidays. Her home was always surrounded by colorful flowers during the spring and summer months. The school, as well as her home, was always beautifully decorated in celebration of each season and holiday for her family and onlookers to appreciate and enjoy. Sandy took great pride in everything that she did. During the summer, she loved the sand and the ocean. She enjoyed the beach immensely, and was looking forward to one more visit. Sandy was honored to call many people her friends. She loved the many teachers and co-workers that she was privileged to work with throughout the years. These are a few who were special and dear to her heart: Brenda Williamson, Rachel Dingess, Ann Grimmett, Marilyn Cook, Linda Burgess, Krista Vance, Katrina Gent, Wilma Zigmond, and Chris and Kim Tipton. The family would like to thank the Oncology Departmant of Logan Regional Medical Center for the service and care extended to Sandy and her family. They would like to give special thanks to Chris Tipton, Dr. Waris, Dr. Harvey, and Dr. Faridi. A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man with Rev. Bryan Baker, Rev. Roger Frye, Rev. Mike Pollard, and Rev. Johnny Hatfield officiating. In honor of Sandy's wishes, her remains have been cremated. In lieu of flowers, Sandy requested that donations be made to the Sandy Manning Scholarship Fund, c/o Man High School, 800 E. McDonald Avenue, Man, WV 25635. Online condolences may be sent to www.krantzmcneelyfuneralhome.com Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home at Man.

My first job with the Board of Education was at Man High School when Mrs. Manning was principal. I will always remember her kindness, and warm greetings upon her arrival in the mornings. It is true, her passion for decorating is one of her trademarks. From the fall festival of colors she displayed every year to the Christmas around the world, she always made the school feel cozy and comfortable. My condolences go out to her family. She was a beautfiful person and she will be missed.

I met Sandy when I was doing my graduate internship, she always had a smile on her face and dedicated her life to the students of Man High. She will be greatly missed and I know she is looking down on us and she is free from the pain that her cancer caused. Her life should be celebrated, I am sure she is laughing and smiling with all those that passed before her. She was a good woman with a huge heart and we are all better for having known her.
