Sandra Marxer Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 30, 2023.
Sandra Lee Marxer, 81, of Livonia, MI, passed away peacefully on October 30th, 2023. She was born on October 17, 1942, in Detroit, MI, to Kenneth and Louise Dornton. Sandy graduated from Edsel Ford High School in 1960.

Sandy was happily married to Michael Marxer and together they celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on October 14th. Sandy and Mike met and married at a young age and created a beautiful life together. They entered hospice care together and Mike died on October 23, 2023 exactly one week before Sandy. In life and in death they were truly inseparable - an incredible love story. Sandy is survived by her loving daughter, Michele (Richard) Witter, and granddaughter Lauren; her son, Damon (Colleen) Marxer and grandsons, Benny and Jackson. Sandy also leaves behind her sisters Judy Nesler, Kathy Shnowski, and her twin sister Gayle Slaven. She will be deeply missed by many close friends, extended family, and all those who knew her.

Sandy worked in advertising at Kroger as a young woman before dedicating her life to supporting her loving husband, their two children, Michele and Damon, and their three grandchildren, Lauren, Benny and Jackson. Sandy enjoyed hosting extended family gatherings because she loved bringing everyone together in her warm and welcoming home. She and her close knit group of friends of 60 plus years ("Fun Club") created a lifetime of special memories together, sharing many laughs and good times. Sandy had a compassionate heart for animals. She sought opportunities to help rescue organizations and had many beloved pets throughout her life. Sandy enjoyed playing bingo and the slot machines in casinos, especially in Las Vegas. She generously gave away her winnings as she believed that brought her luck. For Sandy, the joy was in playing and sharing more than in winning. Sandy had an appreciation for local artists and took pleasure in searching for unique items for her log cabin home in northern Michigan. She loved to shop and resell her treasures in local resale shops and garage sales. Her kind and loving heart made a tremendous impact in the lives of those around her.

Sandy was a member of the Christian faith and cherished her time spent in prayer and reflection. She found solace in her places of worship and that brought tremendous peace throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held for both Sandra and Michael Marxer in the springtime. Family will provide details to follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Humane Society of the United States in memory of Sandra Marxer.
