Sandy (aka Sara, Saramae) Rosen

Our one-of-kind, full of love and life, mother, Sandy (aka Sara, Saramae) Rosen of Chestnut Ridge, NY, passed away on October 24th, 2022, peacefully in her home with her family by her side.

Sandy was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Irving and Elaine Greenspan, on March 27th, 1938. She lived on Ocean Parkway and went to Erasmus High School. She was married to Lenny (Leonard) Rosen. They divorced later in life.

She graduated from Adelphi University in N.Y., earned her bachelor's degree in psychology, and was an active member of the Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority. She was awarded a fellowship to Yeshiva University in N.Y., where she earned her master's in education. She taught elementary school at Public School (P.S.) 24 in Riverdale, the Bronx.

She built a successful career in computers and telecommunications, working in sales, marketing, training, and project management.

She was one of the first women in the country to start selling the first personal computer (P.C.), the Tandy TRS-80. She went on to work for Nynex corporation (Verizon) for most of her career. Before retiring, she was the town clerk of Chestnut Ridge, NY. For decades she was a volunteer supporting other people living with cancer and was honored by the American Cancer Society in recognition of her contributions.

She was a talented public speaker and a Toastmasters member. Everyone who met her loved her. She made everyone feel recognized and valued. Her smile was a daily gift to anyone she encountered. In addition to her love of her children and grandchildren, she was a voracious reader and avid consumer of political media and world news. She also loved her infrequent gambling excursions, playing blackjack through all hours into the morning.

Sandy is survived by her children, Michael Rosen and his partner, Diana Eisner Stroud, Jayne Rosen Demsky and son-in-law Alan Demsky, and her grandchildren, Jason Rosen, Matthew Demsky, and Jessica Demsky.
