O'HARA Sandy O'Hara, age 56, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer at the Kobacker House. Sandy was born on July 15, 1956 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Felix and Patte Schwalbe. During her 56 years, Sandy continually supported her friends and family. She was a veteran of the US Army serving as a nurse where she met her husband Larry, of 33 years. During Operation Desert Storm she served as family support coordinator for Fort Benjamin Harrison, where she served as advisor to the General Staff. Sandy also represented children of special needs by being appointed to the Indiana Governor's council of special education, serving as parent advisor to the Indianapolis Public Schools and the Vigo County School Board also in Indiana. Sandy advocated for enhanced insurance for children by testifying before the Ohio General Assembly. Sandy was the past coordinator for the Westerville Special Olympics. Sandy loved to sing, having participated in the Terre Haute Choral Society under the direction of Dr. Richard Zielinski and the Worthington Chorus. Sandy is survived by her husband, Larry, children, Sean (Heather), Lauren (Jason) and Kali. A Memorial Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2012 at the SCHOEDINGER WORTHINGTON CHAPEL, 6699 N High St., where the family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. Pastor Roger Herrig officiating.
