Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 30, 2017.
Sara Elizabeth Carlisle Barr, formerly of Lower Paxton Twp., passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2017 at home with her family and hospice caregivers by her side.
She was born May 27, 1918 in Harrisburg, PA the daughter and second child of the late Stephen Decatur Carlisle and Clara Rebecca Duttenhoffer Carlisle.

She was preceded in death by eight siblings: Stephen Jr., George, Virginia, William, Robert, Jean, Anna and Esther and by her beloved husband of 59 years, Marlin Woodrow "Barney" Barr in 1997.
Sara was a strong and independent woman whose legacy is a determined strength of purpose and an abiding love for family.
Through her life and her work she created joy and comfort for her children, laughter for her friends, and love beyond measure for her husband.

She was a survivor of the Great Depression and a woman of America's Greatest Generation whose home front WWII work was in support of her husband who sailed with the fleet off the coast of North Africa and all others who served.
Sara is survived by her daughters: Virginia Barr and Marlene Barr, grandson, Greg Seibert and nieces and nephews who revered her as the Matriarch of the family.

The visitation will be from 11 am to noon. The service will commence at noon until 1pm followed by interment at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville, PA.
The Barr Family wishes to express our deep gratitude to the caregivers from Homeland Hospice: Patty, Chrissy, Bernice, Hadizza and Sherry who lovingly eased Mother's journey to the waiting arms of God.

Marlene and Ginni,

I'm sure your mom was very grateful for the loving care and attention you gave her in the last years of her life. It was truly a labor of love from you both.

I enjoyed talking with your mom. I was impressed with how "tough" she was even though she appeared quite frail. It was always nice when Mama Sue could join the BP Ladies for Girls Night Out.

Blessing on you and your family as you adjust to this loss.

Ginny, Marlene, Greg,
Just saw your mom, grandmothers obituary. This time of the year I always looked forward to seeing her at the greenhouse. She will be missed. Such a pleasant lady! Wishing you peace and Gods many blessings as you go on without her.

I was Sue's hair stylist for many years. She was such a pleasure to be with. Always had a smile on her face, and a kind word for other clients. She loved her family and was very proud of their successes. We should all be lucky enough to have such a full life. I know your memories will comfort you in the days ahead.

Aunt Sue, you will be sadly missed, but knowing you're in the heavens playing the organ and jamming with all the others who have passed before you is comforting. I enjoyed our visits and listening to your memories of so long ago. Your loving niece Sandy
