Sarah Boyd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 11, 2018.
Sarah Boyd passed away peacefully at the age of 89 on August 10, 2018, at Shelby Ridge Nursing Home in Alabaster, Alabama.

She was born in Roanoke, Alabama on November 4, 1928, to John and Mary (Kitchens) O'Neal. Sarah graduated from Handley High School in Roanoke, Alabama. After World War II she met and married her husband, James David Boyd, who had returned from the war after being held as a Prisoner of War. They married on September 5, 1947, in Randolph County, Alabama. After raising three children, Sarah worked in the bookstore at Jefferson State Community College.

Sarah was a member of Huffman United Methodist Church for many years. She served as a Sunday school teacher, and also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Boy Scouts. While Sarah loved spending time with her husband, David, at their lake house, she also enjoyed traveling with him and with their church group. Always the social butterfly, she got much joy being around people and chatting with friends. However, her family was her greatest love of all which included six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Boyd.

Left to cherish her memory are her two sons, Ken (Karen) Boyd of Birmingham, Alabama; and Ron (Carol) Boyd of Athens, Alabama; her daughter, Pam (Ron) Atchison of Birmingham, Alabama; her grandchildren, Mason Boyd; Mary Boyd; Adam Boyd; Eric Boyd; Boyd Atchison; Gabrielle Atchison; and her great-grandchildren, Clare Boyd; Adalida Boyd; Maggie Boyd; and Elijah Boyd.

Funeral service will be this Tuesday, August 14, 2018, at 11:00 AM at Ridout's Trussville Chapel with a visitation beginning one hour prior to the service at 10 AM. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
