Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 16, 2018.
James Bradley Offutt (Jim) of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Louisville, KY, passed on to Life After Life Saturday, April 14th, 2018.
Born December 5th, 1931, Jim was the son of the late Henry Y. Offutt and Nancy Brenner Offutt.
Jim attended Ballard private school in Louisville and from there went off to school at The Gunnery private school in Washington, CT. where he served on the student council and was captain of his varsity football, hockey, and baseball teams. After graduating from The Gunnery, he continued his education at Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity.
He served his country during the Korean War. After returning from Korea he worked in the executive offices of Standard Oil Co. of Kentucky. He did volunteer work for The United Appeal and was a member of The Louisville Country Club, The Pendennis Club, and The Louisville Boat Club,
He met his wife, Barbara Rogers, formerly of Charlotte, N.C. and they were married there in The Myers Park Presbyterian Church on April 9th, 1960.
They lived in Louisville for nine years where their first two daughters were born. In 1969 they moved to Aspen, Colorado where Jim worked for Aspen's Mason And Morse Real Estate Co. Jim was manager as well for the famous Mountain Shop in Aspen. It was in Aspen where their third daughter was born.
Later they moved to a much warmer climate in Scottsdale, Arizona where Jim was employed with Charles C. Jones Co. He became a member of The American Quarter Horse Association and The Arizona Quarter Horse Association where he served on the board and worked behind the horse shows that his three daughters showed in.
After his retirement he moved with his wife and family to Sarasota, Florida where he joined The Power Squadron, taking all eight courses and obtaining his captain's license. Jim did volunteer work checking the navigation aids and water depth to prevent areas affected by silt build up and tide currents. Jim was a good salt water skipper and enjoyed going on trips with the Sea Ray Boating Group to the islands off the west coast of Florida, to Key West, and to the Bahamas.
Of more importance was Jims' amazing charisma radiating his kindness and love for everyone. He had many friends and everyone loved him.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, his three daughters, Kathy Offutt, Nancy Offutt McRobb, and Sharon Offutt; his grandsons Jay Navickas, Rhys McRobb, and Bradley McRobb, and his great granddaughter, Victoria Navickas, and one sister, Nancy Offutt Stablein of Louisville.
In lieu of flowers the family wishes instead that donations be made to The Diabetes Association.
