Sarah Segerstrom Obituary
Wilmington - Sarah Paige Segerstrom, age 16, of Wilmington, DE, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
Sarah was born in Wilmington, daughter of Mark Andrew and Alice Piziak Segerstrom. She was a junior at Concord High School, Class of 2019.
Sarah enjoyed babysitting and recently started working at the Siegel JCC Kidsplace program. She has a huge heart for children, especially those with special needs. Her favorite time was spent in the peer mentoring program for those with special needs at Concord High School. She enjoyed volunteering at the church nursery.
Sarah was a fierce competitor in field hockey and lacrosse at Concord High School. She was a talented musician, playing both the piano and violin. Her performances in churches and schools will always be remembered. Sarah also had fun spending time at Broadkill Beach with her family and friends, highlighted by the annual 4th of July parade, party and bonfires.
Sarah is predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Lawrence Piziak, Sr. In addition to her parents, Sarah is survived by her siblings, Emma, Hannah and Mark, paternal grandparents, Carl and Karen Segerstrom, maternal grandmother, Jean Piziak, many aunts and uncles; Lynn Knotts (Nick), Scott Segerstrom (Katie), Clare Shumate (Noah), Laura Ritchie (John), and Larry Piziak, and many loving cousins.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 12:00 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church, 1217 Wilson Road, Wilmington, DE 19803. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will follow at Lombardy Cemetery, Wilmington, DE.
The family would like to express great appreciation to those that donated to the Sarah Seg go fund me page set up by her friends, the money is being planned for use at Concord High School in memory of Sarah. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may also be made in Sarah's memory to NAMI Delaware, 2400 W 4th Street, Wilmington, DE 19805 www.namidelaware.org

I often remember Sarah from time to time, her videos on youtube have me thinking of her often ever since I saw them in 2018. Fast forward 7 years I think about where she would be right now if she was here. I often wonder what she was going through that made her mental health so bad and I wish her story was more public. Regardless, I hope she is at peace.

As a teen that graduates this year,2020, it's hard to wrap my head around this. I've seen this video many, many times. I've always wanted to reach out and say something to her family or friends. I am a Christian, and it's so hard being in high school. Although I obviously didn't know Sarah or anyone involved in her life I feel the need to tell how much she alone has impacted my life. I really really wish I could have met her, I have a best friend and I swear they are the same people from what I seen on YouTube. It's crazy. God works in mysterious ways... R.I.P to a beautiful girl who was just a year older than me, I love you and I've never even met you. I hope this reaches someone and makes an impact!

Like many others I came across the in loving memory of... video on YouTube and when I read the comments and realised how she had died my heart just sank. Nothing affects me as much as young people committing suicide, but from someone who's lived with depression and anxiety and thoughts of suicide for years, I understand just wanting to end it all. Not because you want to die but because you just want the pain to end. My heart goes out to her family and all the friends she made in her all too short life.

I saw a tribute video on YouTube about her. She looked gorgeous,lively,nice,and looked like she had a nice life. It's just unfair that an amazing person like that passed away at such a young age,she had so much more in her life that she could have done. Her future was so bright. I never knew Sarah, I live in London and happened to watch the tribute video of her on YouTube. I just want to say sorry to her family and friends, none of you deserve this, especially not Sarah. I can't say I fully understand what you're going through but recently I've been trying to help my suicidal friend who has tried killing herself twice in the last week. I understand how hard and draining it is and I don't think anyone should have to go through it. Stay strong and I'm so sorry xx

I never knew Sarah, but I saw a snippet of the Youtube Video and read the obituary, and found that she passed the day after a friend of mine took her own life as well. She was so incredibly smart, kind, and a great person to be around, and I'm positive Sarah was too. I'm so incredibly sorry for your loss, may she Rest In Peace and help raise awareness about the massive importance of mental health ❤
