Published by Coloradoan from Dec. 8 to Dec. 13, 2020.
Sarah Jean Vattano

Fort Collins - Sarah Jean Vattano was born on Dec. 28, 1931 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She died on December 5, 2020 at Poudre Valley Hospital of natural causes. She was comfortable, at peace and near her family at the time of her death. She graduated from CSU with a degree in occupational therapy. She worked as an OT until her life as a mother became her primary role. Sarah was united in marriage to Frank Vattano on June 14, 1958 in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They were happily married for 62 wonderful years. They lived in Fort Collins, CO. for the majority of their married life. Sarah was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. John the XXIII Catholic Church. She was a volunteer at Mary's Closet at St. Joseph's Church for many years. Sarah was passionate about the health and well-being of her husband, seven kids and 10 grand kids. She was an engaged and devoted mother until the day she died. With nerves of steel and a heart of gold, she was known as the most wonderful "mother hen" of the neighborhood, among her family and friends. A common phrase her kids remember her saying, "If you can't say something nice about someone, don't say anything at all." People describe Sarah as kind, generous, strong, practical, ethical and loving. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents Harold E. and Mildred O. West and her brother, Jack West. She is survived by her loving husband, Frank; sons, Kurt Vattano, Stephen (Michelle Martinez) Vattano, David (Tanya Floyd) Vattano, John (Christy Tucker) Vattano, all of Fort Collins, CO. Aaron (Keri Bruno) Vattano, of Los Angeles, CA.; daughters, Karen (Scott) Springfield of Bend, OR. and Andrea Vattano, of Denver, CO.; brothers, Jerry West, Archie West and Phillip West; grandchildren, Ben Martinez, Matteo Vattano, Angelo Vattano, Wyatt Vattano, Sam Vattano, Lauren Vattano, Dylan Vattano, Sarah Vattano, Archer Vattano, Russell Lewis. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sarah Vattano to UCHealth Northern Colorado Foundation, PVH Greatest Need Fund, 2315 East Harmony Road, Suite 200, Fort Collins CO 80528 or www.uchealthnocofoundation.org/donate/. R.I.P the most understanding, supportive, and awesome other mom that so many of us Fort Collins brats ever had. Mrs. Vattano you were there when I played my first football game, got into trouble with your children, and you were there at my wedding and you gave me the best advice about marriage. Thank you, Sarah

Pax,

Frank (and family).
I am sorry to hear of your wife's death.

"O Lord, support us all the day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is hushed, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then in Thy mercy grant us a safe lodging, and a holy rest, and peace at the last, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen"

Blessings.
