Sarita Gonzalez-Dolcater Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 9, 2024.
Sarita Victoria Gonzalez-Dolcater passed away peacefully on May 2, 2024 of heart failure with both of her daughters at her side. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and mother-in-law who brought joy and comfort to those around her.

She was born on October, 26, 1946 in Brownsville, TX and moved to Austin, TX later in life. She attended Incarnate Word Academy and Villa Maria High School where she made lifelong friendships. She attended college at A&I University where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Pan American University where she received a Masters in Guidance and Counseling. Sarita spent 34 years educating and helping children as a teacher and counselor, making countless impacts on the children and parents she helped. Throughout her career she was known for her empathy, relationship building and her warm and caring personality.

In her free time, Sarita had many artistic outlets through writing short stories and poems to painting, jewelry making for friends and family and gardening, sharing her homegrown veggies with all. She enjoyed visiting the beach, participating in her grandchildren's activities, and baking up delicious sweet treats. What she loved most of all was spending time with family and friends and playing with her two rescue dogs, Mushi and Charlie.

Those who knew Sarita, or "Nuni" to some, would describe her as always smiling, having a positive attitude, and always lending a sympathetic ear. She was connecting with friends and making her family laugh up until the very end. She loved very deeply and prayed for those in need. She had a strong faith in the Lord, and it brought her great comfort and solace in her final days.

She is survived by her daughters, Nina Lawrence of Brownsville, TX and Monica Flores of Austin, TX, her sons-in-law, Bobby Lawrence and Dusty Burcham, and her four adoring grandchildren, Bryan Lawrence, Ava Lawrence, Lucas Burcham and Bennet Burcham, as well as her much loved niece, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her parents, Romeo E. Gonzalez and Maria E. Gonzalez, her brother, Enrique A. Gonzalez and her husband, David Dolcater.

Per her wishes, Sarita will be cremated and her funeral services will be held at St. Catherine of Sienna Catholic Church, 4800 Convict Hill, Austin, TX 78749, on Friday, May 17th at 2pm. A celebration of life will immediately follow in Sienna Hall in an adjoining building.

A mass intention in her honor will be held in her hometown of Brownsville, TX at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 602 E. Elizabeth St on June 23, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow at the home of Nina Lawrence.

Sarita loved feeding those around her; therefore, in lieu of flowers, a favorite dish to share would be welcomed but not at all necessary.

She will forever live in our hearts and memories.

"Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow."

Dear Family of Sarita, I am so thankful that you shared your mom/grandma with us, and so sad that she has moved on. She has blessed our lives with kindness, friendliness, and generosity. Her bright light has been snuffed out too abruptly, but I know her memory will live on through you.

Dear Sarita, My heart is heavy and sad. You and your family were the best neighbors anyone could ever ask for. You fed our bodies and our souls, and always found time for us. I remember talking to you about our dreams, our writings, and the supernatural. You told camping stories, like about the time you saw the bear. You hosted holiday and neighborhood parties with all your yummy food and hospitality. And you were like a grandmother to our son.

Sadly, we had to move to another neighborhood so we didn't see you as often. We still managed to keep in touch a little, mostly by phone. You took me and another friend to the gem store for our birthdays. The time came two years ago when we had to move yet again--this time out of state. Now we are moving back and I won't get to see you! My only solace right now is that we will get to see your wonderful family, and we know that you live inside of them.

I was fortunate to work with a grief support group Sarita attended after David's death. She was the glue that held the group together. Even though I didn't know but for a couple of months, she brought freshness and hope into any room. My most sincere condolences to Nina and Monica, as well as to her many friends. Rest in peace.

Sarita´s enthusiasm for life was always present in her midst. I enjoyed knowing her for the few years we were neighbors in Oak Hill, Austin. Her generosity toward our family was always appreciated, especially for our son.
My heartfelt condolences to the entire family. With fond memories of holidays with good Sarita food and laughter.
Much Aloha,

Sarita and I where co-mothers to our children, Bobby and Nina. We spent many times at family gatherings, enjoying our children, grandchildren and friends. I will miss her dearly. She was a warm and loving person and I was blessed to have known her.

Dearest Nina and family,
I was completely heartbroken to have heard the news of the passing of sweet Mrs Gonzalez-Dolcater. She truly was a light amongst all who were blessed to know her. Although we mourn such a profound loss, we celebrate her life that was full of so much love, laughter and absolute joy. What an incredible legacy she left. I was so honored to have known her. Her memory will forever be a blessing and please know we are all here for you all and send you all so much love today and always.
