Lowell – Saul Price, age 91, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died on Sunday January 15, 2012 at Lowell General Hospital following a brief illness surrounded by his loving family. Saul was the devoted husband of Helen (Makiej) and would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in June. They eloped on June 30, 1942 before he enlisted in the US Army. He was born in Lowell on December 1, 1920, a son of the late Abraham and Fannie (Miller) Price. He attended the Lincoln School and Lowell High School and had been a lifelong resident of Lowell. Mr. Price served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II in Europe and was with the 11th Armored Division and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. Upon his return from Europe, Mr. Price joined his mother and three brothers to build the family business, Price's Bakery in Lowell until his retirement in 1981. He always gave back to the veterans with his donations. Mr. Price received several medals while serving in the military; the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the American Theater Campaign Ribbon. Early in their marriage, Mr. Price bought a cottage, they fondly called "Price's Shack" for his family on Long Sought for Pond in Westford and spent many a day refurbishing it and priding himself on his handy-man skills. He taught his young children to love fishing, swimming and the outdoors. They spent more than 35 summers there where they enjoyed many Sunday afternoon gatherings with family and friends barbequing on the homemade grill. Saul was also known for his creative nicknames for his family. Mr. Price and his wife particularly loved to square dance and joined the Red Hot Squares in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. They traveled extensively with this group going to Spain, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. He also enjoyed bringing his children on trips to Florida each year. After retiring from Price's Bakery, they spent 25 winters in Fort Lauderdale, FL enjoying friends and family. Mr. Price and his wife joined the seniors at the Lowell and the North Chelmsford Senior Centers playing Bingo twice each week. They also took many excursions to Foxwoods with their children. He leaves four sons and one daughter; Paul and his wife Joanne, David and his wife Jessie, Steven and his wife, Susan, and Thomas all of Lowell and Marlene Price and her fiancé, Bradley Lowe of Tyngsborough. He was predeceased by a daughter, Maureen Ethel, who died in 1943. He also leaves his twelve grandchildren, Aaron Price and his wife Deborah, Margaret Price, Melissa Bourque and her husband Brian all of Lowell, Keith Price of Connecticut, Brad and his wife, Mary Ann of Lowell, Amy Price of Shirley, Andrew Price and his fiancée, Sarah Brown of Lowell. Danielle Clark and her husband David of Nashua, NH, Thomas Jr. of Nashua, NH, Kalene Gendron and her husband Shane of Tyngsborough, Jacob Garbarz and his wife, Sarah of Nashua and Gabriel Garbarz III of Shirley. He also leaves eight great- grandchildren, Sophie and Augustus Price of Lowell. Mackenzie and David James Bourque of Lowell, Damon and Rosalie Clark of Nashua, NH, Logan Price of Nashua and Anna Sophia Price of Lowell. He is survived by one sister, Rose Cuscia of North Andover as well as many nieces and nephews and a dear friend, Hermione Limberopoulos of Lowell. He also leaves his daughter Marlene's beloved boxer and friend, Zelde Mae. He was the brother of the late Samuel, Israel (Eddie), Benjamin and Ida Price, Ethel Banks and Sarah Vallee.

To Mrs. Price and the Price Family: I was very sad to learn Mr. Price passed away. He was such a wonderful man. I enjoyed many conversations with him about his family. He was very proud of each member. He always had a sparkle in his eye when he discussed his wife, the love of his life. I will miss him. It was very interesting reading about his life time achievements. What a remarkable individual. My sympathy to all of you. His memory will live in your hearts forever.
