Scott Gardner Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 18 to Sep. 24, 2023.
Gardner, Scott
2/28/1948 - 9/1/2023
Kalamazoo, MI
Scott Norman Gardner, age 75, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away on the evening of September 1st with his wife of 53 years, Lynn, by his side. He is survived by Lynn, their daughter Erin, grandchildren Zoey and Arlo, sister Nancy (Don), nieces Sarah & Jenny, and nephew Ryan, as well as many cousins and great-nieces & nephews. Scott was preceded in death by brother Neal and nephew Joshua Scott McIntyre. Scott was always grateful for the love of best friends the Thompsons and childhood best friend Dave (Carol) Balge.
Scott was a graduate of Garden City High School and Michigan State University, with a master's degree through Eastern Michigan University. Scott taught biology and coached many sports for Comstock Public Schools. He always said he would live past 100; we have no doubt he will be smiling on through all of us these next 25 years and beyond.
Scott understood something that a lot of adults never do… He spent as much time as he could being in nature, exercising (from triathlons to disc golf to mountain biking), involved in music (Roy Orbison superfan), laughing with family/friends, sharing his passions/knowledge with others, reading, playing sports, and relaxing. Scott recognized the importance of being present. He found joy in simple moments with gratitude for the things that matter most. May we honor him by doing the same in our moments ahead, remembering the glimmer in his eye as he succeeded in making us laugh.
An open house to celebrate Scott's life will take place on Saturday, October 7th, from 1-3pm at the Oshtemo United Methodist Church hall located at 6574 Stadium Drive, Oshtemo, MI 49077. Please come and share stories, fun, laughter, and likely some tears. If you wish to make a donation in Scott's name, please consider the Red Cross (he was a regular blood donor) or the Michigan Mountain Biking Association.

First of all, Carol and I express our condolences to Lynn, on the loss of her beloved husband, to Erin, Zoey, and Arlo for their losing their loving Dad & Grandpa, and to Nancy, on the loss of her dear brother, and to all of Scott's family and friends who've lost someone cherished by all. Thanks, Scott, for being as upbeat as you could be during our visits the last couple of months.
With Scotts passing, all who knew him have lost a friend. For me, I've lost not just a friend, but my best and lifelong friend - a friendship that began when we were 10 years old in Garden City. 65 years is a long time, but wish it could have gone on longer - much longer. I have too many memories to list, and thats exactly what made for such a great friendship.
For all of us who knew you, Scott, our memories, tales, and stories about you will fill the gap left in our lives with you passing - filled many time over. As I had written to Lynn --- Tears for your passing, but many, many smiles for your life.
In our hearts forever. Love and Prayers, Dave and Carol

Scott had a life well-lived however he is gone too soon. I worked with Scott at Comstock High School. In order to support students with learning differences, I co-taught with him a few times in his Life Science class and had many contacts with him about students when I wasn't co-teaching. He was a really good teacher and had a knack for making the content relevant to them. I am so full of sorrow for his passing. Our world has lost a kind soul.

I remember Mr. Gardner from High School biology class. He was a great teacher and very personable. I caught up with him years later working at Marshall Music I believe. I wish he could have made it to 100, but he gave it a heck of a run! RIP
