Scott Harter Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2025.
Franklin Scott Harter was born on February 26, 1967 in White Sands, New Mexico to James (Jim) and June Richards Harter. He died peacefully on May 6, 2025, surrounded by family members following a recent diagnosis of aggressive bile duct cancer.

After graduating from Murphy High School, he attended Birmingham-Southern College where he earned a bachelor's degree in Finance. He married Leigh Ann Jennings on August 19, 1989 and settled with her in Birmingham, Alabama to begin their life together. They made beautiful memories there, creating a home and raising their son, Ethan.

Scott's career expanded through several different positions, culminating in project management, where he specialized in cloud based systems and implementation. He served many different organizations and became a mentor to other aspiring project managers.

Scott held other roles in his life outside of his work: loving son to Jim and June, faithful brother to Kris, and loyal friend to "the fellas" from Mobile, his Kappa Alpha fraternity brothers, and numerous others. But perhaps most central to his identity were the roles he played as cherished husband to Ann and father to Ethan.

Scott contributed to the Birmingham community through the First Stage Players at First United Methodist Church, where he and Ann enjoyed being on stage and the deep friendships that formed there.

Scott loved war movies, The Big Bang Theory sitcom, a good cigar every now and then and, of course, the beach. He is no doubt pushing his toes into the eternal sands, resting from his labors and waiting for the rest of us to come enjoy the sunset with him.

Scott is survived by his parents, wife, son, sister, several cousins and an extended circle of family and friends who miss him dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at First United Methodist Church of Birmingham, 518 19th St N Birmingham, AL 35203. Visitation will begin at 1:00 in the Narthex of the church. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the large dining room across the courtyard from the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimers of Central Alabama or the gofundme site that has been set up to support Scott's family. https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-the-family-of-scott-harter
