Scott Ross Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Sep. 24 to Oct. 7, 2014.

12/7/68 - 9/21/14

Scott was born in Carmichael, CA on December 7, 1968. He is survived by his daughter, Caroline Ross, parents Marshall & Janie Ross, and brother LTC Jason Ross.

Graduated El Toro High School, El Toro CA in 1986. Graduated University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA in 1996

Scott's family moved from northern California to El Toro, CA and Scott attended El Toro High School his sophomore year of high school. His love and passion for football helped El Toro High School to become the first undefeated school in the history of Orange County, CA. and he was awarded the Orange County Lineman of the Year Award for his efforts. With several scholarship offers to consider, Scott became a USC Trojan. A 4-year starter, PAC 10 Player of the Year Award, Defensive Player of the Year Award, all capped off by 3 Rose Bowl appearances and voted All American. The New Orleans Saints drafted Scott in 1991. Although his heart, soul and passion were there, the physical nature of football took its toll and he retired from professional football.

Since Scott left USC before he completed graduation, the University of Southern California alumni tracked Scott down and offered to pay for him to come back and complete his education. He received his diploma in 1996.

With his overwhelming presence and out going personality, Scott undertook a career in sales and marketing working for both Hilti and 3M corporations. Scott was married to Marla Works at St. Mary's Catholic Church and they were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Caroline, in 2000. Caroline was baptized right here at St. Mary's prior to relocating to Louisiana.

Mass will be said Saturday, September 27, at 2:00 pm at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Plantersville.

Scott Ross was a great football player and bigger than life personality. I played against him in college and knew him through some mutual friends. You could tell he loved football and friends. RIP

I have been a huge USC fan since Scott's freshman year and he is my all-time favorite player. I loved wathcing him play and he got me into USC football. I have tons of his games on tape and hope to get a few more from his junior and senior years. I am blessed that he also was a good friend of mine in recent years, too. So blessed that I can call my all-time favorite USC player a friend as well. Of all the players in USC's history, Scott is my favorite. May God Bless the Ross Family, and as he always told me, "Fight On NO Matter What"

I did not know him, gut we need MANY more like him to follow in his foot steps. My sympathy goes out to his family and I wish God's blessing on them in their sorrow at his loss. He was a great and inspiring man. May he rest in peace with his Lord and Savior.
