Died in line of duty

BOURNE, Mass. - Lieutenant Commander (sel) Sean David Krueger, U.S. Coast Guard, 33, died in the line of duty on July 7, 2010, in La Push, Wash.

He was born in New Haven, Conn., on Sept. 24, 1976, to David and Maura (Doyle) Krueger. He graduated from Massabesic High School in Waterboro, Maine, in 1994 and enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard. Upon completion of basic training in Cape May, N.J., Sean was stationed aboard the CGC Bittersweet in Woods Hole, Mass. He later earned an appointment to the USCG Academy in New London, Conn., and graduated in May 2000.

During his first tour aboard the CGC Sundew in Duluth, Minn., he married the former Kyla Trimby of Laconia, N.H., and was blessed with their first son, Trevor.

Sean was selected for and graduated from the Naval Flight School in Pensacola, Fla., and was assigned as an MH-60 Jayhawk pilot in Cape Cod, Mass., where their first daughter, Kerryann, was born.

Sean was subsequently selected for an exchange tour with the Royal Navy, flying the H-3 Sea King at RNAS Culdrose in Helston, Cornwall, England. After two and a half years overseas, Sean transitioned back to the MH-60 Jayhawk and was stationed in Sitka, Alaska, where his second daughter, Ashlynn, was born.

Sean's military service awards include the Air Medal, CG Commendation Medal, CG Achievement Medal, and Commandant's Letter of Commendation, among numerous other unit, team, and personal awards. Additionally, Sean was awarded the Prince Philip Helicopter Rescue Award and the Edward and Maise Lewis Award.

Sean was a loving father, husband, friend and mentor. He was an avid sailor and donated his off time to the community.

Sean is survived by his wife, Kyla (Trimby) Krueger, and his three children, Trevor, 8, Kerryann, 5, and Ashlynn, 7 months; his parents, David and Maura (Doyle) Krueger; his sister, Meagan Roy, Ph.D.; two brothers, LTJG Matthew Krueger, USCG, and Scott Krueger; as well as one niece and two nephews.

Visiting hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, July 15, at the Nickerson- Bourne Funeral Home, 40 MacArthur Blvd., Bourne.

Funeral services will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, July 16, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Mashpee, followed by burial in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
