Selene Lamm Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 29, 2017.
February 21, 1924 - January 24, 2017 Selene Walters Lamm, born Betty Flo Walker in Dexter, Missouri, in 1924 and best known for her roles as a young starlet in Hollywood and for her journalistic contributions, has died at the age of 92. She passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 24 in her Beverly Hills home with her beloved daughter, Eliza, by her side, according to her children Eliza and Alexandra Lamm. From the beginning of her long life, Selene was loved by all and was crowned first in a beauty contest at the tender age of 10. She was also crowned her high school's queen all four years, which quickly allowed her to move on and win hearts and roles in the booming era of the golden age of Hollywood. Before making the move to the West, Selene attended Missouri University and pledged into the Delta Delta Delta sorority. With the onset of the war, she had to make quick decisions and at the behest of her beloved brother, Jimmy, she moved out to Washington D.C., which is where her life really began. Selene began modeling in several high fashion department stores before she got her big break with the famous John Robert Powers Models in New York City. She was featured on the cover of magazines and eventually was truly discovered at the fabled "21" restaurant by Buddy de Silva, the President of Paramount Pictures at the time. From there she was unstoppable and traveled all over the world - Rome, Monte Carlo, Rio, Tokyo, Korea, Munich, Hamburg, Deauville, Bahamas, Haiti, Tehran, Athens and many other gorgeous locales. Selene appeared in over 21 films during her career as an actress and had the opportunity to star alongside the likes of the famous Jimmy Stewart in the "FBI Story." Although she had an amazing bicoastal life in Los Angeles and New York City, Selene began to look at other career options and found that her love for writing and travel called for a new adventure as a columnist, which led her travels all over the globe. Selene mingled with everyone she met, and formed relationships with high society players, including Andy Warhol, Frank Sinatra and even the Shah of Iran. She continued her journalist career through the 1990s. During her years living in New York City, Selene met and married the love of her life, Franklin J. Lamm in 1975, who passed away in 2007. She and Frank carried out their wishes to have a family and adopted three children - David Lamm, Alexandra Lamm and Eliza Lamm during the 1980s. She is survived by all three children and her biological daughter, Scarlett Norris Adams. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, 9:30 a.m. at the Wee Kirk O' the Heather at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale, California.

Mom, the past few years have been challenging without you, but you instilled in me strength, integrity, and most importantly love for family. Everyday I am reminded just how remarkable you, and Dad, were now that I know first hand how much responsibility babies are - you had three of us babies! You are my inspiration every single day. I love you, always.

There are too many memories to think of one to share, but I will share how grateful I am for all of the things you taught me through the years. You were strong, resilient and courageous. Your love for us speaks volumes of your character. Seven years ago today I said my final goodbye to your forever resting body but your spirit lives on forever. I love seeing you and the love of your life, Dad in my dreams as you and Dad continue to push me to be a strong woman and now Mother. Till we meet again in my dreams, I love you always.

Dear Scarlett, My husband and I have been thinking about your mom lately and did not know she had passed. We have had many challenges in the last years and lost touch with mom. We would like to send you our deepest sympathy and hope that the healing process for you is moving forward. I do understand that it is not easy and a daughter really never gets over the loss of her mom. Your mom did speak lovingly of you often and I know she will be missed by one and all. Warm wishes of sympathy, Sharon and Jim Morris

Hi Eliza, it's been three years since your mom passed away. My mother Bonnie is in a nursing home now but she still remembers growing up with Betty Flo and staying in touch their whole lives. We both miss the great letters she sent quite often. She was very proud of you and your family. I've saved many of her letters and still look through them. There were many photos of you and Alexandra growing up. Bonnie doesn't talk much so its an insight into her life as well. Your mothers spirit is still strong. Take care Eliza.

David Sanders,

I believe that was you who I spoke to before speaking to your sweet Mother the other day. I remember through the years how Mom would diligently write your Mother. She loved her childhood, life, and friends in Dexter. So many stories she told me through the years and I remember your Mother's name in many of those stories. Mom will deeply be missed by many all over the globe and there are no words to express the loss I feel as I stood by my Mom always. It is evident that she was my world and I am so grateful for the many many years of memories with her I have to cherish for the rest of my life. She was amazing. She is now reunited with the love of her life, Dad and may they both be resting in peace together forever. <3

To Eliza, Alexandra, and Scarlett. My mother Bonnie, grew up with Selena in Dexter. They stayed in touch for decades until Bonnie was unable to write letters anymore. Yesterday she remembered Betty Flo would come over to her house for beans and cornbread and that she was very beautiful. Her letters were about life in Hollywood and her family and growing up in Dexter. She was very interesting. We're very sad to hear of her passing. May she rest in peace.
