Sergio Chavez-Cortez, age 86, of Bear Creek passed away Friday, April 7th, 2023. Sergio was born on December 28th, 1936, in Tangancícuaro, Michoacán, México to Juan Chávez and Angelita Cortez.
Sergio moved to Wisconsin from California in 1960, where he began working in the meat industry as a meat cutter. Sergio made a lot of good friends during his career in the meat industry and worked in meat plants in Minnesota, Milwaukee, retiring from Hillshire Farms in New London in 2001.
Sergio loved fishing, enjoyed watching a good boxing match or a telenovela (Mexican soap), and loved spending time with family and friends over a good Mexican meal. He also enjoyed traveling the back roads of Wisconsin. Sergio was a caring and loving soul; he was always there to help his family, his friends and anyone else who needed him, especially in the Spanish speaking community. Sergio had the gift of making everyone feel loved and part of the family, to everyone he is: “ Tio Checo” (Uncle Checo).
Survivors include two children, Angel Chavez (Rick) and Miguel Chavez. There are three grandchildren: Amara (Louis), Charleigh Chavez, and Harley Chavez. There are three great grandchildren: Liam, Lily, and Patrick O’Brien. He is further survived by two sisters, Roselia Chavez and Lucia Andrade; and well as numerous other extended family.
Sergio was preceded in death by his parents; his son Joseph Chavez; sister Alicia Chavez; and brothers, Miguel, Rigoberto, and Ramiro Chavez.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, April 21st at 3:00 PM at Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville. Visitation will be on Friday from 1:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Please go to www.beil-didier.com to sign the guest book or to send a card to the family.

Sorry for your families loss. I worked at Hillshire with Sergio. He was a great & caring man. I'm glad that I got to talked to him, on the phone, a couple months ago. Enjoyed our talk. He will be missed. Mike Dallman
