I can still remember Jimmy stopping over at George Proctor house on Church St. along with Earl Proctor, Robert Hardin and several others and we all went fishing in the back of George's house in the Brandy wine Creek. Did not always catch anything, but always had fun with Jimmy and those other people that were mentioned. Miss those day and the people that were involved.

I worked beside Jim many years ago when I was still working the street in West Whiteland Township. He was a great police officer to work with a true friend and a very nice man. He will be missed.

Rene and Terry,
So sorry for the loss of your Dad. He was at our house on numerous occasions as my Mom used to do sewing for the police force. Growing up in D'town he was a person you could definitely look up to and he kept our town safe. What a staple in the community and a true loss for D'town.
With deepest sympathy,

Everything people say here about Jim is so true. I will never forget how he lit up our police classes with his creative impersonations. That picture/that smile...may his family keep it going. God be with you all.

I remember him stopping at my grandmother's house (Mary Lynam) for her New Year's drop in and always seeing him when we visited borough hall. Always pleasant and friendly and respected that uniform. A great community officer and steward - he was Downingtown's own version of Andy Griffith.

My wife and I knew and liked Sgt. Sweeney very much. He had a great sense of humor and was "really Downingtown". Our sincere condolences to the family.

Maureen, Terry and Danyele.....your Dad always had a warm smile for everyone. We were lucky to have him serving and protecting us here in Downingtown growing up. I can remember him stopping over at Lew Wilson's house ( cheif of police and our neighbor back then). Always a gentleman with a pleasant helllo! I had not seen him in many years but his picture here captures the essence of the great man that he was. Sending you all comforting thoughts and prayers.....
