Shannon Abernathy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 17, 2017.
Shannon Dale Abernathy, son of the late Kenneth Abernathy and Nannette Abernathy, died peacefully at The Hospice of East Texas, in Tyler, on August 14, 2017, at the age of 59, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Shannon is survived by his mother, Nannette; his loving wife of 24 years, Elizabeth Abernathy (nee Lowman); his children, Mariah Abernathy, Chris Abernathy (married to Paige), Katrina Skyles (married to Rodney), and Brandon Hagler; his grandchildren, Chase and Maxwell Abernathy, Ryder and Ansley Skyles; and a host of family and friends.

Shannon was born in Texas City on December 1, 1957. He graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1983 with a business degree in Accounting and Finance. Shannon enjoyed many activities with his family: traveling, camping, and boating, in addition to carpentry, building cigar-box guitars, watching baseball, cycling, swimming, and photography.

Shannon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him, as a kind and gentle soul. The family would like to thank all of those who helped to care for Shannon during his fight.

A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. August 19, 2017, at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in San Augustine.

In lieu of flowers, please consider sending condolences with sweet memories to the family, or a donation to The Hospice of East Texas Foundation.

Elizabeth and Family I was truly shocked and very sorry to read of Shannon's death. I now live in Oregon but read the Tyler Paper from time to time and just now read the very sad news. Elizabeth I will always have fond memories of you and Shannon and the times we worked together on selling your very cute house in Troup and in purchasing another one in Tyler. You were special to me. My thoughts and Prayers will
remain with you and the entire family. May
God give you comfort! Doris Cole
