Sharon Day Obituary

Published by Asbury Park Press on May 12, 2018.
Sharon Keena Day

Belmar - Sharon Keena Day, 70, of Belmar, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 10th at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. She was born on August 6th, 1947 in Plainfield, NJ but often referenced the sign in her kitchen which read "I wasn't born at the Jersey Shore, but I got here as fast as I could."

She worked for over 20 years for the Borough of Belmar in many roles including Deputy Boro Clerk, tourism, and licenses. Prior to her retirement this past November, she worked at the Belmar Library where she loved seeing all the children during story time. She was a familiar face in our town and was always quick to jump in, be it with a notary signature, to judge the Halloween contest, or answer a question. She served on the Belmar St. Patrick's Day Parade Committee and in 2000 had the honor to be named the Deputy Grand Marshall of the Parade. It remains one of her most favorite accomplishments.

She was a great friend to the Friendly Son's of Shillelagh of Belmar where she tried unsuccessfully to keep everyone in compliance with local laws. She was a founding member of the Monday Night Mothers turned Friday Night Floosies and was energized by always surrounding herself with great people and good times. She enjoyed the crazy antics of her grandsons who did no wrong, reading, collecting recipes she would never cook, wine, and accessories.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Doris Keena and her granddaughter Agnes Keena Sieck. She is survived by her mostly loving husband of 48 years, Stephen J Day III (who was supposed to go first), their daughter Dr. Deidre Sieck and her husband Frank, grandsons Liam, Finn, and Tadhg Sieck; her brother William Keena and his wife Mary; sister in laws Margaret Mary Plummer (Arthur), and Mary Ann Dean; her cousin Jackie Collier, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday May 13 from 4 to 8 PM at Reilly Bonner Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar NJ. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 10:30 AM at the Church of Saint Rose, Belmar.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Sharon's memory can be made to the Belmar Library, c/o Belmar Borough Hall, PO Box A, Belmar, NJ 07719.

Dear Steve, Deirdre and Family, First of all to Deirdre my love and hugs for the loss of your daughter! I left Facebook ages ago. You and I have Angels in Heaven, and we shall see them again, but not yet..... I wish I had the pleasure of knowing Sharon, having only met her once when you lived on 5th Avenue, and she made me smile. So Nice! All I can say is "Day Strong!!!" Keep the faith, and may you all find Peace in the Days to come. Kudos to whomever wrote the obit. Lotsa love,

We had such a great cruise with you both you and Steve, it was so much fun and so fun just spending time with both of you. I was lucky enough to work and learn so much from you.
You may not have been born at the Jersey Shore but you are definitely the BEST BELMAR representative.
