Sharon Wells Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 15, 2017.
Lubbock, TX Sharon Wells (Todd) Sharon Todd Wells passed away Wednesday Jan. 11, 2017. Family and friends will gather to celebrate her life of 69 years on Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. A tribute of Sharon's life may be found at www.memorialdesigners.net where you may leave memories and expressions of sympathy for her family.

Sharon Wells was born on August 24, 1947 in Mercedes, TX to R. B. Todd and Billie Jean Flournoy Todd. She graduated from Raymondville High School in Raymondville, TX. Sharon received a BA in Music from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. On October 16, 1981, she married Rush Wells in Lubbock, TX.

Sharon taught school for over twenty years. She was a gifted educator with an adept ability to teach teachers. Sharon presented many professional development opportunities to help teachers become more confident in teaching elementary mathematics. She emphasized the importance of helping children learn through conceptual development and the use of hands on learning. Sharon had the ability to write lessons so that teachers could easily implement in the classroom. In 1993, she started her own company, Sharon Wells Consulting with a curriculum known simply as "Sharon Wells Math". She traveled throughout the state of Texas training teachers to be more competent in teaching mathematics to elementary students. Many schools and school districts that implemented Sharon Wells Math received exemplary ratings from the Texas Education Agency due to huge increases in math test scores on the TAAS and TAKS which they attributed to Sharon's program.

Education was important to Sharon and seeing children succeed and develop a love for learning was a driving part of her success.

Sharon was a wife, mother, educator, and a musician, but her greatest life role was that of Mee Mee to her grandchildren. This brought her great joy.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, R. B. and Billie Todd.

She is survived by her husband, Rush Wells; daughters, Heather and Lauren McCann; 5 grandchildren; and sister, Carol Moore.

Memorials are suggested to All Saints Episcopal School 3222 103rd St, Lubbock, TX 79423.

Mrs. Wells' math program is the best in the Whole Universe. She is sorely missed in Texas. I used her program while teaching grade 3 for years and my students always did well. Thank you Mrs. Wells..

I remember having her math curriculum in elementary back in the early 2000s. And hearing stories from my teacher of the workshops she attended with her.

I did not know Sharon personally, but I used her math curriculum in my classroom for over 20 years. It is a brilliant curriculum that encouraged children to play games and use manipulatives while learning many math concepts. I would not have been as successful without this fantastic program. You could see that Sharon had a gift for teaching and a love and concern for all children with different educational needs. I feel very blessed to have been able to use her curriculum. She is the heart and soul of the program. She will be greatly missed. My deepest condolences.
