Sharon Renea White was welcomed home by the Lord on June 5, 2019, in Concord, NC. Sharon was a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose memory will live on and be cherished by those closest to her.
Sharon was born on March 27, 1956 in Seat Pleasant, MD. She was the youngest daughter of the late Samuel and Esterlene Mayo. As a young girl, Sharon was given the nickname “Smiley”, by her parents, because she possessed such an infectious smile, at all times. Sharon received Christ as an early age, and remained a devout Christian for the entirety of her life. She received a formal education in the Prince George’s County public school system, and attended Bowie State University.
Sharon was a fearless single mother to a loving daughter, Lakeisha, for fifteen years. Always having a keen mind for numbers, during that time Sharon worked as a financial analyst for IBM Corporation.
In June of 1990, Sharon married the love of her life, Melvin Thomas White, Sr. To this union a son was born, Melvin Thomas White, Jr. (MT). With the love and support of Melvin, Lakeisha, and MT, Sharon re-entered to work force, where she served as a mortgage broker for years to follow.
During this time, Sharon was a faithful member of Free Gospel Deliverance Temple, in Upper Marlboro, MD for many years, serving as president of the church finance department.
Sharon, Melvin, and MT moved to Concord, NC to spend their golden years closer to their grandchildren. Once in Concord, Sharon joined New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, faithfully serving in various capacities. One of Sharon’s proudest moments was being ordained as a minister of the gospel. Sharon shared her love for God with anyone who crossed her path, and always had a prophetic word to share with those in need.
In her latter years, as Sharon’s health began to decline, Sharon held tight to her faith, and her undying love for her family. Nothing was more important to her than God and her family. She held true to that until the Lord peacefully called her to his side.
Left to cherish Sharon’s memory is her loving and faithful husband Melvin Thomas White, Sr of the home; two children Lakeisha Rice (Jessie) of Clemmons, NC and Melvin Thomas White, Jr of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren Kennedy, Myon, and Trey of Clemmons, NC; four step-sons Gregory White of VA, Tony White of VA, Daryl White (Diana) of VA, and Kevin White (Tareen) of TX; three brothers Lewis Mayo of VA, Kenneth Mayo (Tijuana) of MD, and Michael Mayo of MD; three sisters Patricia Preston, Vanessa Brawner (Thomas), and Valerie Kinchens (Floyd) all of MD; in addition to a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, church family members, and loving friends.

I did not know Sharon well, but mainly from greeting her at New Birth church years ago whenever we ran into each other. Yes. She was always smiling - so beautiful. My condolences to her family and loved ones.

Hello family, I just wanted to say Sharon was a beautiful cousin. I went to visit her several times in the hospital. She always had a smile on her face. One day I said cousin what you want me to bring you to eat? She said I would like to have a cinnamon roll with cream cheese. I ask the nurse if it was okay she have it and she said yes. I came back the next day with her cinnamon roll. Sharon said you came back with that beautiful smile on her face. That's how I am going to remember Sharon. May she rest in peace. Love you Sharon

I have great childhood memories of my cousin Sharon.
How she would visit our family in DC with her late father Uncle Sam when they lived in MD.
How she shared with my sister Joyce and I as to getting our ears pierced. (smile)
How my sister and I went to our 1st concert at the Capital Center with Sharon and Friends.
May you rest in peace and await the resurrection into the Kingdom of God.

Sharon was a joy to talk to and be around. She had the shy quiet chuckle I remember when she laughs. I know she loved the Lord and her family. Truly it was a joy to serve with her at New Birth Charlotte. I say to you God has redeemed a treasure.
