To Nancy, Kelly, Nicole, & Doug,
A Family is where each can find solace and comfort in grief, pleasure and laughter in joy, and kindness and encouragement in daily living. A Family is a haven of rest, a sanctuary of peace, and most of all, a harbor of love.
Shawn is gone from our sight but never our memory. Gone from our hearing and touch but never our hearts.
Love from Susan & Wilson

Kelly and Nicole -- I want you to know that your dad has changed my life. I credit him for giving a struggling young entrepreneur his first big break in the business world. I was hired by your dad five years ago, my first contract with Public Works, even though I lacked the required experience. But your dad saw my potential and gave me a chance. He later told me, to always measure people, not by what they are, but rather by what they aspire to become.
At a recent luncheon, I wanted to thank Shawn personally and say to him the words I am writing here. But I wasn’t able to humble myself enough. Somehow, I felt my words were not necessary and that he already understood my gratitude.
I am sure your dad has instilled in you the same values he lived by and sowed in your beings the same thirst for life and the respect towards others. You will go on to greater and bigger things. You will continue your dad’s legacy. And know, with every new height you reach, with every new endeavor you complete, your dad will be looking down from the outreaches of heaven and smiling proudly.
And although death may hide him, and the greater silence enfolds him; rest assured that his voice will not fade in our ears nor will his love vanish from our memories.
My deepest condolences to you and to the rest of the family.

To Nancy, Kelly and Nicole: My deepest sympathy goes out to you at this difficult time. I was a work colleague of Shawn's over the past eight years and appreciated so many things about him, his sense of humour, his easy repartee, his great respect for everyone he encountered, his willingness to always help those around him, and the joy he took from his family and from life in general. He will always be remembered in our hearts as a very special person and will be sadly missed by all.

Nancy, Kelly and Nicole, Shawn was a man who lived life to the fullest. He affected those around him with his joy and sense of humour. Although, you may not know us, we met you all at the office parties in the 90's. Both my husband Kirk and I were deeply saddened by Shawn's death, it was a great shock. Shawn left part of himself with everyon he met. Our prayers and our thoughts are with your family and we hope that in time sting will not hurt so much.

Shawn will be greatly missed by all of us. I enjoyed working with Shawn for the past few years. We had great conversations about his construction projects at the cottage. He always included his family in our conversations, which showed me he was a real family man. I remember him asking me for help one time to create a music compilation of all his wife’s favourite songs to put on a CD for her birthday. I thought this to be very warm and personable which was the same kind of attitude he showed in the workplace. I will never forget the time I came in early to work one morning, and heard a sawing noise coming from his office. As I went to investigate, here was Shawn cutting the legs of an old end table to use as a stand for his computer. He was a real do-it-yourself kind of guy. I really admired that about him.
I’m glad I had the opportunity to chat with him one last time at a recent luncheon. My whole heart condolences go out to Nancy, Kelly and Nicole and the rest of Shawn’s family.

We’ve lost a great friend and a great guy. I had the honour and pleasure of Shawn’s friendship, and through that the chance to play a ton of hockey and ball with him and to share in many crazy parties with Shawn and the crazies from Sears. I had the opportunity to see Shawn glowing with pride in his ’57 Chevy and his Triumph, and the satisfaction of seeing him build a wonderful family. Shawn had a huge heart, a quick smile and great sense of humour. There were so many neat things, so many good things about Shawn.
Nancy, Kelly & Nicole – my heartfelt sympathies go out to you on your loss. I hope you can find comfort in all those great memories with this special guy. And likewise to all of Shawn and Nancy’s families, I hope you can find consolation in the many wonderful things that Shawn did and that Shawn was.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Matthew 5:3-4
While we grieve for having lost such a beloved friend, colleague and mentor, there is comfort in knowing that heaven rejoices and welcomes Shawn with open arms. May he be given a window to see how his life has touched and affected the lives of so many and may he know how deeply he was respected, admired and above all, loved.
To Nancy, Kelly and Nicole: My heartfelt condolences and my deepest sympathies. Shawn took every opportunity to incorporate you into our conversations (which I greatly admired) and there was obviously NOTHING more important to him than the three of you.
I pray earnestly for your strength and comfort during this most difficult time.

Nancy, Kelly, Nicole and both the Spence and Niblock families, Words cannot express my deep sorrow on the passing of Shawn. He was truly one of the nicest people I have ever met. He would always take the time to help anyone, no matter how busy he was. He loved his wife and girls so very much that it showed in that special sparkle in his eyes. He always could see only the best motives in people and I always admired him for that. Our family is deeply saddened for his loss and our heart goes out to his entire family.

I was so shocked and deeply saddened to hear of Shawn's passing last Wednesday. I had the honor to be his neighbor and friend for 13 years. The neighborhood BBQ's, the building of decks, helping build at the cottage, playing in the GCMHL for 8 years, 2 of them on his team, visiting at the cottage at Silver Lake, or just sharing a moment of conversation on the street, it was always fun to be around Shawn. He was an amazing person and I loved the way he loved to live life. He will be greatly missed. My prayers are with all of you and your families.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Shawn's passing. I don’t quite know what to say to express my sorrow and sympathy. Shawn was my manager for a few years while on the PBMS team. I was Shawn’s assistant. I got to know Shawn pretty good, he was a quiet, gentle, kind, strong man who loved his family and his cottage on Silver Lake. Julie Burke expressed it best at Shawn’s farewell lunch for DND. Shawn was more than a boss; he was a friend to all who knew him. I am thankful, I had the opportunity to know and work for Shawn. I would like to express my deepest condolences and heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Nancy, Kelly and Nicole and your loved ones. Shawn was a special person. May your memories together help you get through this difficult time with strength and courage. God bless you!

Shawn was quite simply an incredible guy.
Liked by all, loved by many with far too many qualities to list but qualities well known to all of us who have had the pleasure and privilege to have worked with him.
We were colleagues for 23 years and he was above all my dear friend. I will miss him dearly and still be expecting him to pop his cheery face into my office.
Nancy, I simply cannot express the depth of my condolences for you, Kelly, Nicole and your families. Anyone who knew Shawn knew that his family was everything to him. Please take comfort and strength in the knowledge that you have the loving thoughts of so many at this unspeakably difficult time.

Shawn played on my GCMHL team every year for as long as I can remember. At the yearly draft everyone knew I would be selecting Shawn. Shawn played hockey with the same passion he had for life and his family. He was quiet, with very strong character.
I got to know a great guy over the years. Always positive, great teammate and great friend. He loved his family and you could see the pride and love in him when he would talk about his girls. He was a guy you wanted as a friend. You knew you could always count on him. Hockey will never be the same but I will remember Shawn forever and I am thankful that I had the opportunity to call him my friend.
My deepest sympathies to Nancy, Kelly and Nicole.

My deepest sympathy to the entire family for the passing of Shawn.
I first met Shawn in our days in "swing space" in Tupper A wing. We had offices next to each other, even though we worked for different branches. Shawn always had a friendly word and a smile - even if it was sometimes sardonic. I've had the good luck to run across him frequently over the years, and again it was with warmth, and a smile. I last experienced that smile on Wednesday morning, and was deeply shocked to learn of his sudden passing.
We have all lost a warm and vibrant individual. May we all be comforted in knowing his smile is now lighting even grander spaces.

Many, many people will miss Shawn. He was an exemplary co-worker and friend to all who knew him. During our last conversation at lunch on Monday, he mentioned how he loved to go up to the cottage at Silver Lake and how appreciative and thankful he was for having access to a family member's powerboat. It was typical of Shawn to recognize good fortune and give thanks and recognition whenever possible…
He will be sorely missed by all his friends and co-workers.
