Shayna.... Here we are 17 years later and there is never a day that I don´t think of you. September and October are the hardest. Each year I think it´s going to get easier and it doesn´t. I miss you so much. I´ll love you forever and always!!!

Still no words, it's been over 16 years. Hardest time in my Navy career was losing MASA Schnell, trying to comfort her Dad and Stepmom, missing man guard mount, and laying a wreath for her in the days following her death. She was one heck of a Sailor, always pushing for the next qualification and wanting to learn. You are still missed by those who served with you.

I know you are always watching and that you are close but somtimes that isn't enough I want to hold you and talk/laugh together. I will always be thinking of you. The time that has past is time that has been lost with you. I'm thinking of you more and more with each passing day. I'm not sure why I write this on here but I just don't know what else to do.love you sis. I would give my life 100 times just for you to live 1. I just don't understand why this happend to such a great magnificent person.when I get angry thinking about it I think of you and how great you are but then I just get sad. Love and remember you forever

I'm still thinking about you Shayna. I'll never forget when I first met you, you proudly announced "I'm Shayna Schnell from Schnellville Indiana!" & everyone laughed. You were so goofy. Whenever I bake, I think about you too. You were a great baker. & I remember riding on the boat with you. You would close your eyes & enjoy the wind on your face. & you took your shoes off & ran through the Astro turf at the mall because you said you missed the way grass felt beneath your feet. I remember how excited you were to get your Wii & you made me watch you...& you laughed so hard as you played. You definitely loved life & I wish more people were like you. & you were so proud of your M-16 & being an MA. I hope your family finds peace in all of our shared memories.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Shayna's Mom, Suzanne, wishes all those who remember her all the best. She was such an incredible young lady, I miss her every moment of every day as I go on about my day I would have never thought that she would be lost to all of us. however I know were she is and she is living a much more desirable existence that helps to know she is better off than here with us because of the things that are happening in the world today the vision that jesus sent me the night of my discovering her passing gave me as her mother such a comfort that I would give nothing for

God's blessings to Seaman Schnell and her loving family. My heart aches for the families of all of our brave soldiers and Marines.
May you find comfort in your loving memories, and know that all of America grieves with you.
December 8, 2007
To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To her family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss her, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by her presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

I thought of Shayna today as I do everyday, but lately it has been more often. Most times it's when I come back to this place were we worked together. I hung a ribbon around the pole where her accident took place, it's weird because it's in a spot where everyone can see it, but only us Navy people know what it means.
My nights at work without her seem longer and are so boring. Her happiness and goofy personality were contagious and made any work day better.
She was a great Navy Sailor and had many goals planned before she left here. She was very motivated about achieving qualifications that others were procrastinating on. She was an awesome role model both at work and outside of work for all sailors here.
To her family:
I still can't believe how strong you people are. You really amazed me while you were here. I'm glad God has answered our prayers and is giving you the strength to make it through the toughest part of this.
We received the email about the funeral service, it sounded lovely. Shayna will always be miss and never forgotten.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Dear Schnell and Silacci families:
I want to let you know that you continue to be in our prayers as you grieve the loss of your precious Shayna. I don't think I ever got to meet her, but she is my hero. I can't imagine what you must be going through. No words I have will be able to help, but I hope the Comforter Himself will be near and active. Navy Seaman Schnell is my little cousin. (Her grandfather Johnny and my mom are cousins.) I look forward to the day I get to thank her for her sacrifice, salute her and hug her. Thank you all, too, for the gift you gave to all of us by allowing Shayna to serve. She paid the ultimate price, but her family is paying, as well. Your sacrifice deserves honor from all of us who benefit by the brave men and women who serve in our military. Thank you.

I am writing to offer my condolences to your family over the loss of your HERO Seaman Apprentice Shayna Ann Schnell. I also lost my son in Iraq on May 6/2007, so I can well understand your pain of losing a loved one so dear.
When things settle down, I recommend that you contact a man named Michael Reagan @

He will draw one portrait of the fallen soldier. He does this for free and will draw any picture of your choosing. He has drawn presidents and other celebrities. My husband and I got one and it has helped me with the healing process. Michael is a truly gifted artist that captures the very essence of the person he draws. I look at my picture everyday and it gives me a connection that I cannot explain.
I pray you will be guided by a higher power to give you peace, comfort and strength in this time.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and having lost a brother to war...I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing. The overwhelming heartache, seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes. Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.
May the memories of your Brave Young Heroine, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days and may Shayna Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that she Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Schnell family.
I am the sister, of such a young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.
"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~
I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the difficult days ahead, as this Grateful Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
