Sheila A. Hamilton

2/8/1942 - 4/11/2024

It is with sadness and yet fond memories that we announce the passing of our ever-loved Sheila A. Hamilton (Guya) at the grand age of 82. Guya passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, in her Portland home with her husband, sister and several close family members by her side.

A caring, devoted and loving wife, mother, sister and friend - Sheila is survived by her husband Ben Miller, three children from her first marriage to Carl (Lars, Saari and Erika) and together with Ben three stepchildren (Mark, David & Susanne). Sheila is also survived by sisters Patricia and Peggy, several grandchildren, a solo great grandchild and many loving friends.

Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Leroy and Marie, she was the first of four children.

Sheila deeply loved her family - it was the most important part of her life. During her illness, she only cried once and that was out of joy that her family was together and with her during her most difficult of days. She enjoyed gardening and anything that had to do with plants and gardens - sharing this love with her sister Pat, the outdoors in general and the Mt. Hood area in particular, antiquing with "all" of her daughters, watching the Blazers, travel, and being with friends for long summer dinners on the patio or any of the numerous family gatherings shared over the years.

She was the original "HGTV" back when Portland had only three "over the air" television channels - decorating her old Portland Laurelhurst home with ideas and concepts way ahead of her time. "Classy" was one of the best words used to describe Guya and she reflected this in her lifetime and lifestyle - through her homes, dress and demeanor. A big sports fan, Guya loved pretty much all sports, but her favorite was basketball and the Trail Blazers were her team. A knowledgeable and old school fan, it was the defense she always would point to as the key to the game - something that would be discussed regularly during a season.

A devout Catholic and Christian, Sheila lived the teachings of her Lord every day, sharing these through example & conversation. It was a beautiful thing - the values, lessons and comfort she pulled through her faith coupled with how she never wavered in her efforts to share this with the people she cared most about. One of Guya's true loves and an example of her kindness and caring, Sheila leaves us with a large collection of "Teddy Bears". The collection has been shared over the years - one bear at a time - as a gift to children in need and that will be continued on in her memory.

Her enthusiasm for life and energy given to all throughout a day is greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

A private gathering for family and friends will be held later this summer to celebrate her wonderful life.
