Sherman Richardson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2012.
Richardson, Sherman Frederick-89, of Terence Bay passed away May 15, 2012 at the QE II Halifax Infirmary. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late Percy and Margaret (Slaunwhite) Richardson.

Sherman began his career with CN in Halifax, he then took a leave of absence to serve overseas in the Second World War. When he returned to Halifax he resumed his position with CN as a Baggage Master until his retirement in 1980. Sherman was instrumental in the formation of the Volunteer Fire Department in Terence Bay, where he was the first Fire Chief. In his spare time Sherman loved to work with electricity, wiring houses in the bay and tinkering with CB Radios and Tvs. Another one of his hobbies was organizing the Dory races in Terence Bay.

Sherman is survived by his wife of 64 years, Beatrice (Drew); daughters, Deborah and Brenda; son, Terry (Kitty); 10 grandchildren; six great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Marion, Dorothy, Evelyn, Marjorie, Helen and Jean.

Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street, Halifax. A private family graveside service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church, Terence Bay.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of 6.1 and 6.4 of the Halifax Infirmary for their care and kindness throughout Sherman's illness. Also special thanks to his grandson Craig for his care over the years.

Wayne & Doreen Little & Family

We can't believe it's been a little over a year since Sherm's passing. We was such a wonderful man--always there to help out the community of Terence Bay--He did everything from Fire Chief to being in charge of fun things like the Dorey Races. The people of Terence Bay certainly appreciated all his efforts. He will always be remembered as a great friend, a fine neighbour and a great man with a love for his family and community. To Beat, Craig, Scott and family: We wish for you peace and comfort with the Lord's Blessings all around you. From Wayne & Doreen Little and family.

Dear Aunt Beat and Family,
We were so sorry to hear of Uncle Sherm's passing.
I (Mike) will always remember that he shared his interest in electronics with me when I was growing up, which led me on my career path.
Our thoughts are with you,
Mike & Karen

To Beat, Craig, Scott and family. We are so sorry to hear of the passing of Sherm. He was a wonderful man and he did so much for the community of Terence Bay. It was always nice to see him out on the front step, leaning on the railing and watching the passers-by. We would always give a wave and he would wave back. He will be missed, that's for sure. We hope you find peace and comfort in the days ahead. Take care and God Bless. From Jacki Little, Tim DeWolfe and our son Dean DeWolfe.
