He was my favorite teacher in life. I made history honors because I loved the class so much. I bowled and learned to drive from his instruction. In the car he said what are you waiting for a the stop sign "Cowboys and Indiana". He was simply the best. Take care RIP.

What a great teacher and I owe most, if not all, of my good driving habits to his calm, patience advice during drivers ed.

Respect is something that is earned, not bestowed. Mr. Irwin was the most respected teacher among all my classmates because he earned it! I think of him every time I drive on Route 17!

There are teachers in my life that are memorable. Mr Irwin is on top of the list.
With no disrespect, as high school students we affectionately called him “Tommy Irwin” (but not in his presence). There was such a positive spirit and uniqueness to Mr. Irwin. Students loved to be in his presence. One of a kind. I never met anyone like him. He was so admired by my class at B.C. My thought and prayers are with his family. They must be proud of such a fine man.

Funny, honest, and a great teacher. Taught almost everyone I know how to drive. Bergen Catholic would not have been the same without him. Everyone loved that guy.

The end of an era in US History, Drivers Ed, Bowling, the Gauntlet, the Circle of Shame, and of course the Elevator Treatment. He was a great teacher of men. I'm sure he is looking down on all of us with that mustached grin on his face.

I too had Mr. Irwin as a teacher in Bergen Catholic. I am saddened to learn of his passing. I have and will always remember him as one of the few "greats" that positively influenced my education. He could have probably done anything in life and been successful, I'm grateful that he became a teacher.

For all the fear he instilled in us if we stepped out of line in his class, I really feel he was deeply concerned about us as students and cared about our future.

Mr. Irwin, you were a memorable character indeed. Thanks for teaching me how to drive and for creating some great moments in history class. Those of us in your classat BC knew how unique it could be. My best wishes to the Irwin family.

He was a character and one of the most beloved teachers at Bergen Catholic. He was real, he treated us like men, and he was funny as hell.
