Shirlee Wilson Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Dec. 11 to Dec. 13, 2015.
Wilson, Shirlee J. Shirlee went home to be with her Lord on December 9, 2015. She was born on October 13, 1926, in Cadillac, MI, to the late Cyril and Leota (Stone) Meek. On September 9, 1949 she married Dr. Doyle Wilson, who preceded her in death on June 20, 1993. Shirlee and her husband were long time members of Berean Baptist Church. She served as a board member and volunteer to several local agencies including the Women's Auxiliary to the Academy of Medicine, the Ladies' Library Association, and the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts. Shirlee was proud to help establish the local SLD Center, and tutored young readers with dyslexia for years. She was passionate about her participation in P.E.O. International, supporting educational opportunities for women. She was a skillful writer and poet, who charmed and challenged her readers over the years, and maintained an active writing schedule for the monthly newsletter at her retirement community. Shirlee's main focus was her family where she was a generous and supportive matriarch. She will be missed by her children, Victoria (Michael) Swenson of Grand Rapids, David (Kandace) Wilson of Portage, Elizabeth (Duane) Klas of Cedar Springs, MI, and Paul (Susan) Wilson of Portage; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and her brother, James (Lemoyne) Meek of Auburndale, FL. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Wilson; and her sisters, Donna Tyler and Elaine Hoffman. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place. A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15th, from 4-6 PM, at Berean Baptist Church, 7813 S. 12th Street. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, December 16th, at 11 AM at the church.
