NORTH LIBERTY - Lloyd “Bumstead” Winstead, of North Liberty passed away at Millers Merry Manor, Walkerton, on Sunday, July 1, after an extended illness.

Mr. Winstead was born on April 26, 1929 in Wheatcroft, KY, to the late William and Essie (Monroe) Winstead. He had been a resident of the area for over sixty years, coming from Kentucky.

On July 1, 1978, in Mishawaka, IN he married Diane C. Collins. She survives along with daughters, Shelley (Brad) Winstead-Balmer of Broken Arrow, OK and Christelle Winstead-Schmidt of Thibodaux, LA; and a son, Scott B. (Lynn) Winstead of North Liberty, IN. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Branden, Ryan, Megan, and Nicole, and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom he loved and cherished. He Is also survived by Cassie, Diane, and Lloyd's loving dog. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Breakiron and Mary Marvel; and a brother, Gaylon Winstead.

Mr. Winstead retired from Bendix Corporation as a Set-Up Tech after over thirty years of service.

He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have served this great nation.

Mr. Winstead was a fifty-year member of the American Legion Post 365, and a lifetime member of VFW Post 1954 both in North Liberty, IN.

He liked to go hunting and fishing, working on guns, machine repair, and was an extremely Patriotic man and loved being with his loving family and numerous friends he made during his life journey.

The family request memorial contributions be made in Lloyd Winstead's honor to Pet Refuge, 4626 Burnett Drive, South Bend, IN 46614, in lieu of flowers.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Hanley and Sons Funeral Home “Southwest Chapel” located at State Road 23/West Ireland Road. Funeral Services will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 6 at the funeral home, with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post 365 and VFW Post 1954.
